NCAA bans satellite camps, effective immediately.

Camps can only be held at a school's facilities or at facilities normally used for practices.



Any FBS coach or non-coaches with football responsibilities can only be employed at their teams camps/facilities.

Does this affect BYU? Have they been doing satellite camps?

All of BYU's camps have been in Provo so it doesn't impact them.



Both Utah and Oregon State have run satellite camps and Sitake saw the recruiting benefits from those camps. Whether or not he would have implemented that practice is now a moot point.

Bronco was just starting to do them. Wasn't there one in CA where TJ was from. I thought there was one in TX. Maybe there were just proposals.

How does this affect D1 coaches' participation at non-school camps like the All-Poly camp?

BYU was running a mini-camp in the Polynesian islands, which is where Kaufusi was finding some of these recent guys with little-to-no experience.

Very good question. I think that falls under the new rule. I would think only BYU coaches could do it since it is held on our turf.

The NCAA is one of the most ridiculously run and inconsistent organizations outside of government that I have ever seen. If they were not so much like a government entity, they would have long ago folded.

It affects the all poly camps and any other camp not done by a host school at their facilities. And no collaboration of schools. This will severely limit opportunities to be seen by different schools. Alema needs to file a law suit and claim disparate impact. That would kill the rule.

Just goes to show you the Ncaa could care less about education especially for poor minority kids who can't afford to go to camps at far away schools.

Six of the ten FBS conferences voted for the ban: BIG, Big 12, PAC-12, SEC, MWC and the Sun Belt.



With a majority of the conferences opposed to satellite camps and 4 power conferences against them, the NCAA Council had little choice but to go along.



I agree that the ban makes it difficult for athletes to explore many options but this is about protecting the home turf.

I agree with it: I see no reason, really, that coaches and players should be doing football camps in space while orbiting the Earth.

I asked Alema. He said they should be okay this year. They are looking to appeal the decision or work something out for next year and going forward.

I think if the NCAA at the behest of the conferences continues in this manner then they should not be allowed to charge a fee and must accept all applications to their respective camps. If they intend to benefit at the expense of the kids then they should do so without compensation.
