What does this mean? A few things.
1. Obviously, a talent upgrade. Look what we've been able to do with less talent. Apply the same coaching to increased athleticism and . . . wow.
2. I'm most impressed with the defensive talent. At every level, we're getting great talent. Awesome DL, PHENOMENAL LBers, strong DB's.
3. Non-LDS talent. We've always been able to get a handful of non-LDS athletes, but the quality of non-LDS talent is increasing each year. I will be anxious to see when we will land our first 4-star non-LDS talent.
For those that do not buy into the star system:
First of all, I believe this is becoming outdated. Just a few years ago, I bought into the bias, incomplete information available, etc. Each year Scout gets better. It's not perfect, and it never will be. But it's getting better and better.
The primary reason BYU fans are down on on the star ratings is that we feel Scout and other analysts underrate our recruits. If that was the case, which it very well may be, although we're getting more respect, this is even MORE reason to get excited.
I think the future is looking bright.
