WCC Tourney

Cougs survive SCU today to go onto the semifinals. We'll play the winner of the Gonzaga vs Portland.



Wasn't a good day for us, but we had just enough to get past SCU. KC did not look good. Not much scoring from the post. While the score shows a comfortable lead, the last min and half we were only up by a few. SCU fouled and miraculously we made our free throws.

We made that game way too hard on ourselves. Gotta clean it up if we want any chance at stealing the tourney championship.

Tournament games are always a battle. Brownridge was a complete beast today for Santa Clara but he couldn't do it by himself. BYU didn't shoot the ball very well from the perimeter, but made enough key buckets down the stretch to get the win. The team will have to play much better if they face the Zags in the semi-finals Monday night.

Man that was a painful game to watch in the second half. Foul call after foul call after foul call. Just too much stoppage time. And of course Santa Clara kept things way too close. But a win is a win.

Hopefully we got the " bad game" out of our system. Best case scenario is the team realizes they played bad and got lucky. If SCU had anyone but Brownridge scoring, we would have lost that game.



Assuming we face Gonzaga and win, it will be the first time in 18 years Gonzaga hasn't made it to the finals.

I am always interested in monitoring our shot selection. Mostly that works out to how will we are to not shot contested 3 point shots in the first half of the shot clock. Usually it feels like Emery needs to reined back in. Fischer has done a much better job in his overall shot selection.



Also I was surprised we didn't go to kaufusi in the post a little more. He had a huge size advantage and made a couple of jump hooks.

Unfortunately, it seems that in conference tourneys, bad games are the norm and good games are the exception.
