If you were Mike Leach ...

Ok, if you were Mike Leach what would you do now you have been fired by Texas Tech?



A few ideas:



- Take the HC job at a no-name school far away from Lubbock, work for peanuts in exchange for having TOTAL control. Convince your #24 ranked recruiting class to come with you and build Tech2.0.



- Take a job as an OC somewhere in the Big 12, still take as many recruits/transfers with you as you possibly can and wait for a decent HC job to open up somewhere because, face it, you're not a long-term OC kind of guy.



- Get back in touch with your roots by coming back to BYU as OC when Anae gets the job as HC at Tech. Find your inner LaVell, channel your inner Cosmo, bust the BCS (tell me that wouldn't be therapeutic) and wait for Baylor to make you an offer.



- Stay off the NCAA/ESPN radar for a few years as Adam James, and the TT AD/Brass both meet their respective ignominious and Lubbock-ian demises, and then swoop back into Lubbock riding on a white horse.



So what are you going to do?

I think Leach has too many demons to coach at BYU.



While I dont' see it happening, nothing would repair Leach's reputation more than being our OC and helping take this team to a national championship (or even into contention)



No one would make a better mentor for Brandon Doman than Leach (offensive footballwise)

Wait for CU to fire Hawkins, then become head coach for the Buffs and regularly stick it to TT?

I think I'd try to get an HC job at some small school that has Tech scheduled several years down the road (or an in-conf team like Baylor or Iowa St.), and show that it was no fluke that Tech went from being a nobody to a contender while I was there.

This is why I think his recruiting class this year is such a big part of the equation whatever he does. If he takes his staff AND his recruits with him, he will already have his revenge. It gives him a HUGE head start in building/rebuilding whatever program he goes to and it greatly accelerates TT's implosion.



I didn't mention this in the initial post but obviously there are major legal ramifications for what Leach/TT have done in the last week and I know we have a few lawyers and other legally-minded people here on cougarcorner. Being rather uninitiated in the field, I'd be interested in knowing how this mess may play out from a legal perspective.

Not a lawyer but Leach will get money and they will smooth out their differences.

Well I can tell you this much, it can't help tech's case that they fired him the day before they owed him 800k.

Oh yeah, he should totally go to Kansas, something about "out of the frying pan..."
