BYU vs USD = WOW!

91-33!! San Diego almost didn't get out of single digits in the first half. Well done, boys! Hoop musta' felt as big as a hula-hoop tonight. Hopefully we can keep it up through the conference tourney.

I have never seen such a lopsided win. While we were watching, my little boys kept saying, "this is not even a close one."

This was a case where little brother stepped up and played big brother really tough for the first time. Little brother was feeling pretty good about themselves and talking up how close little brother now was to big brother.



After hearing enough from little brother, big brother says, "Enough, let's go play again." And then proceeds to pound the living snot out of little brother.

Watching the highlights and looking back on these two games, I think it needs to be mentioned that this doesn't just happen. Yes, it's good to be playing at home, and yes, it's easier to win when your guys hit their shots, and absolutely, it's better for a team like BYU when the officials aren't calling the game super-tight and instead are letting the players play, but a difference this big, a turnaround this impressive, and a win this good doesn't come without a coach doing a very good job. Kudos to Rose and the coaching staff for fixing whatever we saw at San Diego.

Given two days difference, clearly we can deduce that home court advantage is worth 60 points ;)

One of the more noticeable differences between the games was the passing. It was obvious they were looking to pass into good shots. They must have gotten an earful about that after the first meeting

I know BYU fans get a lot of crap about blaming refs for stuff, but this is one way in which refs have a massive impact on the game. Too little interference and the physical team runs away with the game, too much interference and the usually aggressive team plays timid. BYU may not be the most physical team but they need that aggressiveness offensively and defensively to play to their advantage. I think we really saw the difference in these two games.

I agree. I also noticed that four Toreros had four fouls each with 4 or 5 minutes remaining, yet none of them fouled out. For BYU, I think only Kaufusi had four.

I like how no one player really stood out. Great TEAM ball!! Only one player (Fischer) didn't have at least a 0.50 PER/Min. I don't think that I've ever seen such a beat down at the college level!

This is the first game BYU has played all season where they didn't play up or down to their competition. This team has the talent to be very good but for some maddening reason, they play down to poor teams and have lost to 3 of them in the WCC.

According to Coach Rose, this was the best game BYY played all season. They passed outside-in, and inside-out (25 assists). On several sequences at least 4 players touched the ball quickly to find the open shot. Very unselfish play which led to very good shots from the outside and in the paint. It also helps that the guards showed up to play in full force (not just Emery and Fisher, but Seljas, Chatman, et. al.).



In addition, they had 7 blocks, 8 steals, 44 rebounds to 25? by SD, and ONLY 9 turnovers (they try to stay under 13).



This should be the bar that they try and set for the remainder of the season. Hopefully, they can play this way consistently regardless of whom they play. There has been a tendency in the past to overlook lesser teams after wins over top teams.

And be a nightmare matchup for some higher seeded team in the NCAA.

You're absolutely right. That tendency has been exacerbated whenever they come off a big win; hence the really bad losses. If these guys learn to be consistent, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

I agree. This year they have had higher highs and lower lows though which has been especially hard to stomach.
