Good. Very good.

The longer he stayed, the more likely it was that he wouldn't transfer.

Yep--I'm just glad the question is put to rest.

Great news. I'm excited for the future of BYU with Taysom at QB and Tanner as his backup.

Just in my opinion, whoever comes out of spring practice in the #1 spot is the front runner until the job is taken. I don't know if Hill will be ready for spring ball--but if not, then fall camp will determine the depth chart. I don't think it will be Hill by default.

I agree, I don't think it will be Hill by default either, I just believe that Hill is the superior QB and will win out.

Wow! All Mongo can say is - Wow! I am super excited for Taysom. That he is recovering to the point he can play again. Outstanding. I am so excited for Taysom.

That said, can he displace the award winning Freshman QB of the year and sit him down on the bench? Wow! What a unique predicament for Taysom and Tanner. The competition will be fierce. That's good for the team. One of these 2 outstanding QB's is going to be the backup QB. Wow!

The only reason BYU won't have 2 qbs in the top 10 in the nation is because they can only play one at a time. If Taysom's legs hold out I'd like to see them both in the same backfield on occasion. How would you like to be a linebacker facing a backfield like that?

Competition at all positions is a good thing. It makes the players sharper. I believe Taysom and Tanner are mature enough to handle it, and they will support each other, whoever is named the starter when the dust settles. If it is Taysom, I just hope the offense isn't too tailored to his skill set such that there is a set back if he does not make it through the season. I hope the offense is more like it was for Steve Young. The plays were for a passing QB, who would just happen to cut and run if necessary. If it is Tanner, I hope we have a package of plays that gets Taysom involved in the game plan. Assuming he is healthy and still has the goods, he is too talented to not see the field. Either way, I can't help but hear the engines of the old QB factory kicking on and roaring to life again.

As much as I love Taysom, Tanner is a superior throwing quarterback and is better suited for the pro set offense that detmer wants to run. I hope tanner wins the job and I'd love to have Taysom as a back up. I'll obviously support whoever the staff thinks will give them the best chance to win.

After listening to Steve Young discuss attributes of Taysom Hill, it is quite apparent that a healthy Hill should start over Mangum given the skill set that he possesses.

Some of the reasons TH might be coming back is the opportunity to finish what he started, learn the intricacies of the game under the tutelage of Detmer, and prove himself on the big stage against a very difficult (P5 worthy) schedule.

I'll let Ty figure it out. I would be interested in seeing Tanner at QB with Taysom and Jamaal in the backfield. If Tanner keeps the ball, he's passing. If Jamaal has the ball, it's probably a run. If Taysom ends up with the ball, good luck guessing. He'll probably make a read and then determine the play. I'm sure Ty has something drawn up to handle the blend of talent.

Now some other important questions to be answered:

Will he be healthy enough to participate in Spring Ball?

If not, when will he be healthy to participate with the team?

This is what I was wondering about as well. I assume that he won't participate in spring drills. That gives Tanner a huge edge going into the fall.

I agree with this, I want to see the read option go bye, bye. Taysom could run for 1000 yards as a drop back QB who just runs when it opens up IMO. Dude is a threat to score a TD with his legs every time he drops back to throw.

This is what I think too. BUT both TH and TM are such stand up humble guys that he is nothing but supportive to whoever wins out and in the end BYU is better for it. I can't wait to see what Ty can do for our QBs. I think QB factory is back open for business! That's my hope and expectation anyway.

3 season ending surgeries out of four years!

A LisFranc injury last September--not your ordinary injury and usually MUCH worse than an ACL and barely recoverable. He ain't gonna be ready in spring. At best he will be throwing the ball and maybe running some sets--but no live action.

I agree that these two are actually mature enough to handle this where most could not--not even close. And I suspect they already have a plan--a plan that Ty already alluded to.

And I suspect we will see a tweet before long from Tanner supporting his Teammate and being totally above board about this.

Coaches would be FOOLS to put their trust in Taysom. He's fools gold and there is such a smaller percentage of a season long success with Taysom that they just aren't going to put all their eggs in the TH basket.

Both are smart enough to pick up the scheme but Tanner will have so many more live snaps, and bc he is a better passer, may never lose out the battle to TH. And therefore Ty will find ways to integrate TH into the offense bc of his explosiveness and give him some looks so he can sniff a possible draft scenario, if TH is interested.

Having claimed all this, I'm super excited about the prospects--potentially complicated as they may become--and love, love that he "couldn't see himself anywhere else" but as a Cougar!!

Go Taysom!! Speedy recovery! Go Tanner!! Kick some tail! Go Cougars!!

I was listening to hans and scotty g when they broke this news and hans said he will not be healthy for spring ball. I don't know if hans has inside information but I'm just passing on what I heard.
