Holmoe: 2nd 3 game series with Notre Dame is "off the table"

Tom Holmoe had a Q&A Friday, Jan 29 and one of the answers to a question about the Notre Dame series was that the BYU-Notre Dame series was essentially 2 2-for-1 deals. BYU played at Notre Dame twice and he expects that Notre Dame will eventually play the game in Provo. But the 2nd 2-for-1 deal is "off the table". So instead of 4 future games (2 @ BYU, 2 @ ND), there is only 1 future game (1 @ BYU).



In discussing why, he said the ACC scheduling deal came up after the agreement was signed--and that was a great deal for them. BYU is also hoping to get into a conference so it would be hypocritical for him to hold their feet to the fire on a deal that is great for them when BYU basically hopes for the same kind of thing.

Another question was related to the slowing down of scheduling announcements. Holmoe said because of where things are currently, he doesn't need to schedule out too far and isn't going to announce new series starting after 2020 this early--but is currently "working on one series that fans could have fun with".

Here is where things stand between now and then.



2016: 12 **6 away, 6 home

2017: 12 **6 away, 1 neutral, 5 home, no FCS

2018: 10 **6 away, 4 home, no FCS

2019: 9 **5 away, 4 home, no FCS

2020: 8 **5 away, 3 home, no FCS



If you add a FCS game each year 2017-2020 and push one road game from 2017 out to 2019 or 20, there really is only 6 games left to add to fill everything through 2020 (1 home game in 2018 and 2019, 1 away and 3 home games in 2020. Not to mention that one Notre Dame game that Holmoe is expecting and not on the schedule yet (maybe that leaves only 5 new games).

I wish Holmoe would schedule 7 home games, even if it meant giving up a P5 for a G5 school.

It wasn't that he was wrong a lot of the time, he just didn't know how to communicate well with others.

I agree with this, not necessarily to dumb down the schedule but it means more revenue for BYU because most of the stadiums we play in for road games are smaller than our own.
