Su'a-Filo Going on a Mission

Good for him!!!

I'm always proud of young men who make that choice, especially in the face of huge football success.

"Former Timpview High lineman Xavier Su’a-Filo, who spurned BYU and Utah to sign with UCLA, announced after the Bruins’ 30-21 bowl win over Temple tonight that he will leave on a church mission. Su’a-Filo, a true freshman who started every game for UCLA this season, will return to Utah and submit the paperwork necessary to receive a mission call, he told reporters after the bowl game. Good for him! It is difficult to manage this at school's other than BYU.



Part of me wonders if Slick Rick strongly encouraged this, to try to capitalize on USC's losing Kaveinga? Funny how recruiting works sometimes...

After being on a mission for a while he will realize he wants to come to the "Lord's University" and we will welcome him. And it won't hurt that by the time he gets back BYU will be on the verge of great things while UCLA will probably be entrenched by scandal or just plain and simply stick sucking.

It doesn't hurt that the offensive coordinator is LDS and was at BYU when the whole mission procedure was figured out. (Before 1972 players who went on missions generally didn't return to play football.)



Hamani Stevens also went on a mission, and he signed with UCLA. Prince, their QB, decided not to serve when he became the starter.
