Change in recruiting philosophy?

It sounds like Sitake is taking the approach that Utah has been using where they offer EVERYONE that would be good to land. They miss on a bunch, but I suppose the benefit is you might land some you didn't bother to offer. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

KS has a golden opportunity to impress, and actually make a huge step forward if these efforts toward recruiting actually impact the 2016 class. I understand that given more time, I believe hands down that Sitaki will prove to be the better recruiter than CBM, but if he delivers even a couple of positive surprises come the first week of February, then I'll see BYU moving forward beyond what CBM could ever have accomplished.



I can't put my finger on it, but I simply feel more passion coming out of this staff than I did from the previous group, but the proof will be in getting guys to Provo that will fit and thrive in the environment of BYU.

The Cahoun interview on 1280 The Zone today revealed that there has been a significant "change in the guard" related to recruiting as he does have the ability to have the opportunity to compare the two philosophies. He's still young in the endeavor, but he sure wasn't shy from noting how different things are now.

I tell you, it was refreshing though to hear someone give you more than the standard cliches of coach speak. Now maybe as he settles down into his new position some of that will return, but PK would ask questions that were "not exactly a soup question" (Finding Forrester reference) and he would respond, when he could.

Interesting interview--it would have been interesting to hear the after-interview conversation between hosts. DJ and PK have both been outspoken about how BYU is NOT unique and I'm sure they had a field day with his comments about how a BYU education rivals a Stanford education if you want to live in Utah. Not that I'm going to dispute his arguments--but I could just picture the hosts teeing off on that once the interview is over.

One other thought. In the wake of KS's hire, we have noted the dismay of some recruits whose offers were pulled. It sounded like we were already out of scholies and yet the staff is out there trying to "flip" some already committed athletes. So if they succeed, then I wonder who will be dropped in the post NLOI day.

Yeah, I had the same thoughts when I heard him say that. I'm sure they were having a field day with the lamb sent to the slaughter and walked into their cross-hairs.
