The Elephant in the room

Well, I just wanted to put to words some of my thoughts about the rivalry game being cancelled. First thought, the utes have wanted to cancel the game for years, ever since Kryskowiak (or however the hell you spell his pathetic name) became coach he has wanted to cancel the game, he just found an excuse to do it now. He is a coward (even though they have been beating us lately) and doesn't want to play the game because he can see the talent coming in at BYU and knows that his success isn't going to last long. This issue about the game getting too violent is a lame excuse and everyone up on the hill knows it, you can see it in their eyes when they get asked the tough questions.



Second thought, I hope that BYU doesn't even try to get the game rescheduled and Rose comes out and says flat out that as long as the current coaching staff is there, we won't play them.

Rose said that when Jim Boylen was the coach at the U, Boylen told him that Chris Hill wanted to end the series when Utah joined the PAC-12.

Finally a national sports writer that actually gets it.

SI's Seth Davis laid this out exactly for what it was. A ruse by Puketah to try to win a competitive edge over BYU in recruiting. It just amazes me how many sports reporters haven't seen thru to what this is really about.

That statement in it's own should have been front page news. I couldn't believe Coach Krybaby said it.

A rivalry only works if both sides respect the rivalry. If the Utes don't want to be our rivals anymore, then I say we cut ties and move on -- in the long run I think it hurts them a lot more than it hurts us. We're playing lots of P5 schools and starting to develop other rivalries while they're kind of a misfit in the Pac.

The other half of the elephant in the room is that Rose and company know what kind of jack wagon Kry was at the game. Undoubtedly they were not going to stand for such a bad sport to lecture them on sportsmanship. Why call over and over again to apologize to the goof ball who was behaving badly too? At its worst not calling is just being genuine. At its best, calling him would only have served to remind him how stupid he was being. I know when I talk to folks behaving badly, it is very easy to point out that they're behaving badly - and much like telling a moody teenager that they're being moody, it just escalates the situation to "nuclear" level.

I didn't see it but I read about that in Mark Durrant's open letter to Utah. I agree. I say Rose ought to come out publicly and say that while he doesn't support ending the rivalry he supports never playing Utah again as long as this ass is their coach. But Rose has way too much class to do something like that.

It's not just that coach 80k cancels the game, it the insult of him and the rest of the Utes expecting everyone to believe it's over concern for safety and what not. Nobody is buying it.



Yes, as far as coach 80k goes, the real reason he cancelled is because he doesn't want to play on Provo next year and get his butt whooped.



But the bigger reason that Hill signed off on it is the ongoing efforts by Utah to to act like they are the 800 lbs gorilla in the state, simply because they are in the PAC 12, and "big time" the other teams. Of course, neither BYU or Utah State is buying this BS. Now Utah's plan is to apparently play the other teams rarely or not at all, hoping that will make their imagined difference between them and the others more apparent.



It goes back to this inferiority complex we've seen in Utah fans since the conference change. It's why so many of them have been so obsessed with talking PAC 12, putting PAC 12 stickers on their cars, and so on. Almost as if they're more proud to be affiliated with that conference than to be fans of their team. It's like deep down they're not sure if they really belong and desperately want to prove to themselves and everyone else that they do.



And Ute fans, in all their delusion, are starting to really believe it. Just read their comments on their board or in the comments section below any article on this. They really believe they've moved beyond playing BYU. Nevermind that they have losing records in both football and basketball in PAC 12 play.

You do have to hand it to them for thier "we'llplay two other Utah teams a year" line - lumping Utah State and BYU in with Weber State and Southern Utah and Westminster. They at least have the line down, now they just need to avoid any down years. Just two years ago they had to put $100.00 billis in tshirts that they were shooting into the student section to get anyone to their games.



Honestly, if they fall back to that level of support they will crawl back on thier knees begging to have us play them

yeah, I'd just drop the series.



Utah = drama queens.

This comment is a little hard for me to write. I've been a Montana Mormon since the 50's when we moved to the beautiful Bitterroot Valley. In my teens dad took my brother and me to 2 football and 2 basketball games. At that time we were in the Big Sky conference. I saw Merlin Olsen play and we lost to them by 1 td. I loved the Grizzles and still do even though I've moved back to Idaho. Along came the Kryskowiak teams and they beat a lot of people. He went pro and again we were proud of him representing Montana. Now this fiasco of cancelling games because it's too heated has come along. I can tell you that the Grizzlies have not cancelled any games with the Montana State Bobcats which is just as hot a rivalry as BYU and Utah is. I guess it isn't just coach K, the athletic director is in on it too, but he has said plenty about it. I am no longer an admirer of Mr. Kryskowiak.
