Keep the royal...

I know this is totally unrelated to the happenings in the last few days, but I'd like to express my love and joy for those awesome royal unis the other day. THAT is how the Cougs are supposed to look. Can we get rid of the Navy blue please??? BYU and royal blue are synonymous.

I like the Navy blue uniforms. And Navy blue and white are BYU's original colors. They went to the Royal blue in the 1970's and 80's, so we just got used to it. I say stick with the Navy blue.

I think BYU should continue to reserve the royal for special occasion. Once the royal blue becomes an every day thing, it will lose it's novelty and nostalgia and people will realize how hard it is to wear royal blue all the time. My first two years at BYU were pre-color change, and I can tell a lot more students wore BYU stuff in everyday life long after the switch. Right now, I'm convinced a lot of people wear it for the nostalgia factor--believe me, having loyalties to both the Twin Cities and North Side, my Cubs gear gets a lot less wear than my Twin stuff because it's hard to pull off wearing royal all the time. If anything, I would prefer BYU reserve royal blue for in-state rivals and occasionally bowl games.



If I were to have one gripe with the navy blue (at least as implemented by the football team) is that it is too dark. They should go one shade lighter--right now the football uniforms especially are midnight blue like the NY Yankees. I think they should go with a lighter blue, more like the now-replaced SD Padres hats. For reference, here are some shades of MLB blue:

I agree with Mingjai. I love it when they wear the royal blue, but I would definitely wear less gear. I like it for the special games, principally rivalry games.



On a slightly different note, I hate the black BYU gear. The uniforms aren't too bad, but I hate the black fan apparel.

You guys have changed my mind. I agree. Although the royals have turned into losses to Utah. :evil: I am glad I can imagine Max to George and the "I hate you speech." That salvages the royals. I am loyal to the royal!!!
