I usually hate rumors, but I kind of like this one. Even though this setup does not seem realistic it would be really, really fun. I doubt the Big East would "share" its revenue or admit that the MWC is its equal (or even better as would be proven as the MWC beats the Big East like a baby seal).

A simple pairing of 8 conferences on a rotating basis for a championship game as a play-in for the BcS games could be the beginning of a playoff.

I can't imagine there's anything behind this. I'd love it if there was. Would a season-ending TCU win over Cinncinatti be enough to push them over Texas this year? Who knows....

I doubt this would actually happen, but just the fact that it's floating around out there suggests that the Big East is afraid of us.

And if this is legit, does the MWC still invite Boise?

I think it is even more likely that this scenario would happen if BSU joined the MWC party. If BSU came to the MWC, we would likely be extended AQ status after the next reevaluation.

As a second-tier AQ conference like the Big East or MWC, what do you lose by having your champion team play a non-conference game at the end of the season? We have already seen this year just how difficult it will be for an undefeated Big East or MWC champion to get a spot in the BCS Championship because of the boost the other conferences get from their conference championship games.

This proposed pseudo-championship game would give an equivalent boost to the winner, with minimal cost to the loser. What happens to the Big East or MWC champion that loses that matchup if both are AQs? You still punch your ticket to a BCS bowl, just like you would have without the game. If you win though, you have a chance at that elusive golden ticket.

The one thing I don't like about this scenario is that our champion would have to travel east to play them.

One upside I do see is that a 10-2 MWC champion could end up with an auto bid if they just beat a weak Big East team (most years their champion is 9-3 or 8-4).
