WAC Future

We spend a lot of time talking about where the MWC is going. What is the WAC's plans? What would you do? It seems that they just sit back and wait for BSU to leave and to just fall apart. Do they plan to replace them with a Sun Belt team?



If I were them I would look at expanding to 12 teams and pick up somebody to compete with BSU to keep them in the fold. What about giving all of Hawaii conference games as home games. Then the other teams could schedule a 13th game and earn some extra money. Maybe a conference championship game against Conf USA to improve their chances to get into the BCS.

It's hard to fight the reaction of "who cares?"



I wouldn't want to be Benson and have to deal with their issues of recognition. It's nice to have them around because they tend to make our conference stand out more. Their only bright spot is BSU and it's kind of like the old BYU in the WAC where we took the championship every year.

Their lack of action has played into our hands and might doom their future.

The WAC should be apporaching BYU, Utah and TCU begging them to join the WAC. It's not such a crazy idea, and it sure would get the MWC to you know what or get off the pot.

The WAC future will not be anywhere close to as good as the WAC past. Time to start talking about the glory days and not expecting much.

The WAC should also be approaching Wyoming, UNLV, SDSU, AFA, UNM and CSU for when they lose BSU. I could see a couple bottom rung MWC teams considering what would likely be an automatic jump to the top of the conference standings.

Now that is not such a bad idea. The downside might be that they would lose out on future BCS money.

They're already going to when BSU leaves for the MWC after next year. It's got to do something, it could likely barely make it as an 8-team conference, but if the MWC were to take a couple more, it wouldn't survive as a 7-team conference.

The WAC is doomed if BSU leaves.



I think realistically San Jose will probably cut football program due to state budget problems.



Idaho should go back to 1-aa where they are a natural fit, same for New Mexico State.



La Tech needs to be in a conference in the east.



Hawaii - not sure about them, I liked playing them to have the poly connection and to have a 13th game. I would think they could go independent and just get tons of home games...



Fresno - they are a good program and will end up somewhere



Nevada - I thought they were a decent program but in reality they have a terrible coach, and no support. Ault told the media in 1996 when BSU went D1 that he never wanted to play BSU because they were above Boise...I dont think they have ever beat them... ha ha



Utah State - They are sort of a tweener. I like USU, and hope the best for them.



So, if BSU and Fresno get into the MWC, screw the rest of the WAC, and hopefully Hawaii and USU will land on their feet.

I actually like this idea, but rather than invite to the WAC, just make a new conference and cherry pick what is wanted, and leave the rest for dead...

BSU leaving the WAC could actually be good for the conference in the long run. Having a single dominant team in conference marginalizes a conference in a way that the old WAC and the current PAC-10 know all too well. In the near term of course it would hurt but if BSU doesn't leave the whole conference will be stagnant in a few years.
