Kalani "back in Utah"

I'd have to say, of all the rumors, Dave McCann reporting that Kalani Sitake is now "back in Utah right now", says a lot.



By the way, that pic is going out of the north exit of the Church Administrative building (CAB) into the 1L parking lot. That says something too. I'm just wondering how McCann would have gotten a pic from there. Usually the only individuals behind that desk from where the pic is being taken are Church Security staff. I'd tell that security guy to duck if he posted a picture of people moving in/out of the CAB.

Not totally associated with the issue of "Kaloni 'back in Utah'", but where has Steve Kaufusi been in all of this. I haven't seen anyone being shocked that CBM didn't take him with him to Charlottesville, nor any word of what his plans are.



Have I just missed anything quoting him or someone discussing him in all of this coaching changes?

About Kafusi, I haven't given much thought on this, the thought process hurts me, but not being one to let my total ignorance on a topic stop me from opening my mouth and emitting a non-joyful noise, if I were Kafusi, I wouldn't want to miss my boy's last years of college basketball.

My guess is that Kaufusi was offered and declined because of Corbin. He would be a SUPER welcome addition to the new defensive coordinator, and my guess is that he will be absorbed and his job is pretty safe.

My hope is that both Steve Kaufusi and Guy Holliday are both retained by the new coaching staff.

I'm no more knowledgeable than Uroner ... but I think I heard that Kaufusi turned Bronco down. He bleeds blue and has good reason to stay.



Tidwell is another staying. I think the new HC should be keeping all three of them

Kaufusi doesn't like Bronco.

I would love to have Ty Detmer as BYU's offensive coordinator but IMO he doesn't want to leave his Ranch in Texas. I don't anticipate him coming to BYU to coach anytime soon.

Bingo! A friend of mine went hunting this last year on Detmer's ranch. He chatted with Detmer. Had a great time. He's enjoying life. I do not see Detmer leaving his lifestyle and ranch - unless a very compelling offer came his way. Anyone think tightwad BYU will make Detmer a compelling offer? I highly doubt it.

I guess you are saying that he would need a "compelling" offer to get off his bucket and leave his ranch for a major part of the season, correct? Seriously, if he handled his money from 13 NFL seasons, he shouldn't have to work again. He's 48 and at 55 he can start collecting his NFL pension. Currently that is $76,920 annually at 55 or if he waits until 65 it's $201,453 annually. He's been coaching HS probably more as a hobby than anything else.



Honestly, I am totally guessing, but I have to believe too that he would be compelled just a bit at the challenge it would be to work with college QB's and maybe especially since his nephew is one of them.

Obviously Ty isn't hurting for cash as he could easily get a high paying football job but hasn't taken one but I think he's said he lost all of his NFL savings in that Ponzi scheme awhile back that caught up a few pro athletes.

I never did find out for certain if that pic of Kalani in the CAB was on Tuesday or Thursday. Dave McCann made it appear as though it was Thursday and he had "come back" to Utah. I'm not 100% sure and I'm still curious how McCann got probably a Church security guard to take and send out a pic.



Now someone is rumoring on CB that Kalani says he doesn't have an official offer yet. I should have stuck to my guns and just ignored this stuff until I heard they were convening a press conference. I would be absolutely shocked though if there was anything announced before the game is over tomorrow. That's where the focus for BYU football needs to be until the conclusion of the contest.

I'm disappointed at the slow movement on the coaching front. Without a coach going into the bowl game and when JC kids are signing their letters his a problem. Because now all the publicity at the bowl game will be Bronco going to Virginia and BYU is still in coach search. I think BYU is the only currently open HC position. I'm sure Holmoe and the church has a process and are operating on their own timeline, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth and is very distracting from the bowl game.

So .......... Lance Anderson is dead in the water? I have not seen any info about Anderson except that he is a "little rough". So? He's a football coach. Bear Bryant was a little rough.

All the info appears to have been leaked from the other parties' side. It would be nice to some bit of news besides how nice the casino pool is behind the BYU Sports Nation desk in Las Vegas. I get they shouldn't leak info but the total lack of anything since KN declined is frustrating.



Especially because we know it has commits concerned (Warner, Tanielu).

No, there are several other HC vacancies still open from smaller schools. But Schools like South Carolina took months to find the right guy. I wouldn't get too impatient for just a couple of weeks. I think only two things matter. 1. We get the right guy for the job. 2. The right guy for the job is announced before the recruiting dead period ends.



I want to know who the next coach is as much as anyone so that I can start to build my unrealistic expectations for next year. Though it may be painful to wait, it is going to happen eventually, and BYU is a quality enough job that we will get a quality coach. Sitake or Anderson, or whoever else BYU is interested in isn't going to say, "You took too long, so now I'm not interested in a head coaching job."
