Well eff. So who's it gonna be now? Tidwell? Reynolds? Anae? Would the brethren make an exception for a good Christian man who knows BYU/the church well enough to run a clean program (Holmgren)?

PS-I'm happy for Coach N doing what is best for him and his family, I just wish it were also what was best for BYU football.

Sitake is the likely pick. However, if there is no selection until after RPLV bowl game, KW is likely the candidate.

One of these would be truly underwhelming. The other would likely win more games, but I wouldn't watch them.

Ken Niumatalolo, who interviewed for BYU's head coaching job on Monday, has informed Navy he will remain the Midshipmen's coach, a team spokesman said Wednesday.

I'm wondering what, in KN's mind, was the deal breaker? He might have gotten a little more pay at BYU, and quite a bit more national exposure, besides his spiritual interest in BYU. I wonder if he was expecting a strong spiritual confirmation, and just wasn't feeling it. Maybe he simply didn't see eye to eye on some things with Holmoe? I'm just curious.

Oh Good Gosh! If BYU could somehow get Mike Holmgren to come out of retirement to coach at a pittance to probably his retirement income, that would be a coup of colossal magnitude!! :love: :love: :love:

Not trying to argue here, but does it really matter? On to the next guy. I just hope the next guy isn't Sitake or any other former ute coach.

I believe it's all about $$$$$. Ultimately, Bronco left BYU to triple his $$$$. Coach Ken makes more $$$$ at Navy. Money is not bad. It's how we feed our families, clothe them, get medical care, educate ourselves and our children, and one day - we retire because we have save enough $$$$.

So, the Coug "powers that be" must somehow find deeper pockets to attract the kind of talent that will deliver an elite winning program. Or, be satisfied to be a B+ to -A football team. High level performance costs $$$. It's true with cars, race horses, weapons and championship sports programs. It is what it is.

Depending on which rumor you believe ... yes, and he failed the phone interview and isn't being looked at.

Ken not taking the job gets Anderson a pass on the phone interview.

IMO, Ken should have taken the job. By staying at Navy he paints himself further as a triple option guy, which limits his opportunities. Course, if he has no ambition of doing anything different than running the option and coaching Navy then he's fine. But, if he ever hopes to coach at a "bigger" program we needs to show he can do more than just the option. He had that chance with BYU.

It is what it is. BYU would still have Bronco, and would have landed Coach Ken, if they were willing to spend the money. They didn't. BYU football lost out.

BYU is cheap.

TH got boosters to chip in an extra million on Bronco's salary. But that gave boosters a vote. The boosters didn't like Bronco (he didn't go out of his way to endure himself to them) and now we are looking for a new coach.

I have heard this often, but seen no actual evidence to support this... I know that it's a popular theory, like Alice Cooper and Steve Martin being Mormon and stuff. But I've not seen that BYU has missed out on any coach or coaching candidate because of money; and Iâm kind of a âprove all things hold fast that which is goodâ kind of guy. Bronco has enough flaws that His leaving has more to do with someone else paying him more than BYU will; not so much that BYU couldnât or wouldnât pay him that much if they believed that theyâd get that much back in value. SO I guess weâll keep seeing this theory floated out there, but I doubt that Iâll ever see much, if any, evidence to support it.

Unbelievable. So, it was more than cheap BYU? The boosters actually wanted Bronco out? What fools. It's like the San Fran 49ers chasing Harbaugh out - because of a personality conflict. Look at the 49ers now (dead last) vs Michigan - doing well and rising. Foolish.

The link didn't open for me - but I beleive that the school makes a bunch of money - I'm saying that I haven't seen any actual evidence that we lost out on Kenny over money.

I've also not seen evidence that we lost Bronco over money. If the school wanted to keep him for that amount of money they could and would have. The reports that I've seen had the school prepared to offer Ken more than they were paying Bronco. That tells me that they were willing to pay a coach more than they werr paying Bronco, but they didn't beleive that HE was worth more.
