If what McCann is reporting is true

This is a huge break for BYU Football, and actually looks pretty good for the Church as well.



First, Ken N is an amazing coach, an even better man, and would have been a wonderful representative of the mission of BYU. But I am convinced he would have fit in at BYU as well as Rich Rod fit in at Michigan. It would have been asking too much of either Ken changing to fit BYU FOOTBALL or BYU FOOTBALL to fit Ken. It's ok. I'm glad they met and realized it's not going to work. It's not anyone's fault, it's just the way it is.



Second, not every important Mormon needs to be at BYU. In fact, it's kind of a good thing that some aren't. This is one example where I believe more good can be done in a different part of Zion. Kind of the lift where you stand principle discussed by Pres Uchtdorf many conferences ago (I was still in Ohio at the time, so at least 6 years ago).

So what is McCann reporting?

Come on....that's hardly an announcement. It might end up being true but most other accounts I've read say KN wasn't going to announce anything until he returned home and had time to process it and make a decision.

Ken Niumatalolo: Navy’s athletic director stated today that he did not expect a decision today from Kenny whether to accept the presumptive offer to become BYU’s new head coach.

McCann is just reading into the Navy AD's remarks earlier today, where he said he had no idea what Kenny would do, but that the longer it takes, the better it looks for Navy.



Which sounds to me like a guy trying to put optimistic spin on not knowing anything one way or the other. Remember--the new hire has to have a sit down with a member of the BoT who is an apostle--either Q0f12 or First Presidency level--before a final offer/decision is made. By process, BYU's hiring process for this job takes longer.

And, if we take KN at face value, he and his family are pondering and praying about it, and sometimes that takes time too. If he stays at Navy, I am fine with it; if he comes to BYU I am excited.

I think Dave has an alternate source which when added up, he made this claim. I would put money on it.

It is good. If he truly wanted to run the triple, which has been most of his career, there may have been a real incongruence with what TH wanted. So either the money for assistants or scheme problem.

If this is the case, I say KN should remain at Navy where they love his offense. BYU should go with Sitake who appears to be the 2nd choice. I haven't heard anything about Anderson or Whittingham of late.



And wouldn't that be a trick? Seeing Sitake facing Whittingham in 2016?
