Future Assistant Coaches

We have been spending our time discussing the future Head Coach. We are losing most of our assistants. Who are possible candidates to come in. A few names have been mentioned. The future HC will impact the final decisions. i would just like to know who can be considered. Dupaix could come back at RB, John Beck or Doman at QB. Cahoon could take a spot, the WR is not currently open though. Detmer at QB or OC, Chad Lewis could take a slot. Who for OL? Wong or Peck?



Shaun Nua on D (rumored to be going to UVA). Who else for the D and DC? Brian Mitchel for DB? Jordan Pendleton could be the strength coach.



I don't know who are our current Grad Assts. They might get a spot.

I would hope that BYU could get some real coaches in and not just former players.

Ed Lamb current head coach at SUU is a possibility. I agree with Hawk that we need quality assistants. I hope they are available and can recruit like heck.

Since I haven't heard anything official ... I hope Wintrich stays (but, if I were a betting man, I'd bet against it). That is a more crucial position than most people know ... he may get more time with the players than the other coaches as he gets to work through the off-season with them.



I know that there are Navy assistants who have already expressed an interest in coming to BYU ... especially if KN comes, but either way they are interested.



I'm a Guy Holliday fan, and I REALLY hope he stays. I think Tidwell and Kaufusi are locks to stay in place. IIRC, Tidwell has been significant in BYU's recruiting, and that is something we need to make sure we don't lose. We've been improving in that area.

Ruffin McNeill has already been hired at UVA. Bronco has hired him as the Assistant Head Coach and he will be the position coach for the inside linebackers.

Yep. Sure does look like Bronco is focused on beating utah. Wherever does he get all the time? Nothing like not letting the door hit you on the way out. As BYU tries to end amicably, Bronco is securing his future. Good thing we kept him.

I suspect Bronco can walk and chew gum at the same time.



The players I've heard from say that practices are "surprinsingly" focussed and intense. Film sessions are running as they should.



Meanwhile, Bronco hired McNeill almost immediately after he was fired.

This blackcatinsider has kind of emerged as a popular source, but I just can't find this to be very likely.

It's intesting how TH has to shop for coordinator positions, as seems to have done so previously, as opposed to the HC. Again, given recent reputation as issues, it makes me wonder if TH a is sweating things and has opened his Rolodex to turn over every stone. I would think KS if he's the guy, would want his own guy at OC.

Why are we interviewing coordinator candidates before we even have a head coach? If this is anything other than generating a list of eligible, interested assistants and staff for the new coach to consider, this could be a blunder. Who would want a head coaching job where your coordinators are pre-selected for you?

Agree. There is a possibility that a coach has been selected, and BYU is helping reach out to the candidates the new HC is interested in to guage their interest. Or, like you said, TH is just generating a list to say, "We've done some legwork and here are some possibilties, but you are free to choose who you want."
