Well I will now be watching the Navy game on Saturday. What time is the game?

This means that the absolute soonest BYU hires a new head coach is Monday, so everyone can give the refresh button in the browser a rest for the weekend.

Mr. Gladchuk can take a breath and relax. Army is 2-9, Navy is 9-2. Navy is favored by 21.5 pts. Pretty heavy odds Navy will stomp the guts out of Army.

Sounds like a grown man crying...

My oldest son is meeting with an Army recruiter next week. I really hope that Ken takes the BYU job to make my allegiances during the Army Navy game less complicated.

Ken's visit to BYU was the lead story of this hour's sports segment on WTOP (major news radio station) here in DC.

My question is, is the "visit" on Monday truly a visit or is it just cover for a press conference?

Hard to say for sure. The option scares the crap out of me, but the more rational side of my brain tells me Ken N. has a lot of successful experience running an entire program. it might work pretty well as long as he can get the right OC. Let's be honest, it's gotten to where the majority of blue chip LDS players now are Poly, and we've been missing on way too many of them. Maybe a Poly head coach is the right move to increase the level of talent. Tom H. can gauge whether coach Ken is going to be able to adjust what he's done on offense, because the triple option isn't a smart option for BYU. If he doesn't think he'll be able to do that, he hires Sitake or maybe Anderson.

This is good. Not the OC though. He called the plays. Sometimes the OC delegates the play calling. But that would indicate he probably didn't design the offense but he knew it well enough to call plays, so that is good. If he gets a good OC at BYU this might turn out well. I do like what I've read about him as a coach in general.

Niumatalolo has been running the triple option for 25 years. I don't think he will change overnight. As a Navy fan who has been watching it for a long time, I can assure you that it is an exciting offense to watch. When it's clicking, it's art. I know you're used to slinging the ball all over the field but I think you'll grow to appreciate and enjoy the TO. It's fun when you realize the opponent doesn't know who has the ball. We hate to lose KN but understand the appeal that BYU has for him. He's clearly one of the most successful LDS coaches right now and if that's as high a priority as it seems to be, then he's your man, but if your AD doesn't want to see the option, he needs to look elsewhere.

Hmm. The point about the long term after KN is a good one. If he truly sticks to the TO, which I would expect him to do, your O line will need to learn a whole new blocking scheme. Cut blocking is different from pass blocking. We run some plays from the shot gun on occasion but it's basically the TO. He could probably shift to more of a typical spread employed by many teams today but still; 25 years.That's a long time to be perfecting one offensive scheme. Secretly, Ken N. has always wanted to go snowmobiling with Bronco - before Bronco heads to UVA. Time is running out to "scratch that itch." LOL! ;)

I think the Navy AD is upset because he knows this is only job Coach Ken would leave Navy for. What's more I don't think the money will be the difference maker in this situation. If Ken feels right about taking the BYU job then that's what he will do.

I entirely agree with this. If KN comes to BYU, he needs to run the offense that he knows best, and that obviously is the TO. If BYU does not want that, don't hire a guy and make him spend years trying to perfect another system. I realize he's "familiar" with other offenses, just as any head coach has to be in order to prepare for other teams, but it's pretty clear that he is most comfortable with the TO. Which almost entirely eliminates the talk of BYU getting Detmer for OC. That would put Ty in a very difficult situation.



Will be interesting how it all pans out.



And scissors, thanks for the info and the objective viewpoint on the TO. I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about the TO (except that Bronco was a master at stopping it).
