I like the Las Vegas Bowl as well, but I can see several bowl games on the above list that I would rather have BYU play in. Some might not be as convenient for fans to travel to, but money, prestige, exposure, opponent, etc. would all be better in the majority of the bowls on this list. Now of course all of these bowls are tied into other conferences, many being P5 conferences, so BYU playing in any of these bowls is all hypothetical at the moment.

To be fair, it is more than twice the payout of the Hawaii Bowl's $650,000 and much cheaper for the team to get to, so they keep more of that $1,350,000.



But, to be fair, we are now locked into that Hawaii Bowl next season, and those higher expenses will be realized next year and subtracted from the lower payout. At least now BYU logistics has a full year to plan it out and shop deals to cut those expenses. How many teams can say they know where they will be bowling on Christmas Eve in 2016??

Hawaii Bowl commitment isn't until 2019. Next year is Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, and 2018 is still up in the air. At least I think that is how it works going forward.

In my mine, this announcement makes me think a BYU-Utah bowl game is in the works. Otherwise, I don't see any incentive for ESPN to make the decision for BYU to go to Vegas prior to Bowl Selection Sunday and all the dominos falling.

The Hawai'i bowl tie is in 2019. Here are the bowl tie ins for the next few years:



2016 - San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl vs. MWC

2017 - No tie in, At Large

2018 - San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl vs. MWC

2019 - Hawai'I Bowl vs. American
