Squally Canada Eligible to play in 2015 Bowl Game

Per Ben Criddle announcement on ESPN960:

BYU should have an ample supply of RBs for the game with a healthy Hine and Burt backing up Algie and Bernard. According to Anae, Squally is better than all of them as evidenced by his play on the Scout Team. He clearly adds another dimension to the run game if the OL can open up holes for him to pop through.

How can he play and not lose a year?

He left Washington St following the Fall 2014 semester. He had to sit out for one academic year - which according to the NCAA is 2 semesters. So he sat out for the Winter 2015 semester and Fall 2015 semester. The Fall 2015 semester is now over, so he can play.



He redshirted at Washington St. So if he waited until next year, he would be an RS SO regardless of playing in the bowl game.



By playing in the bowl game - for which he is eligible - he doesn't lose a year he wouldn't have lost anyways.

That is awesome. They could use a speed back. Right now they have the bruisers but Canada will bring another dimension to the run game that certainly needs one.

Wouldn't that be kind of cool if the match up pitted BYU v WSU bc he transferred from there? I'm not sure it adds actual intrigue on a national scale, but it would be cool. What would be interesting is to see if Anae actually plays him. I'm not sure ANAE can adjust his gameplan with such short notice. ;-)

Or for that matter if it would be viewed that he had earned PT. Which wouldnt be a bad reason considering the other guys have put in a full season of reps.

Besides,the BIG IF is theOline who seemed to get worse mid season with some injuries. BYUs run game has really struggled ever since, after a decent start to the season. Let's hope Squally can catch the ball bc I don't think he will see many open holes to run through.

Anae will put together 3-4 plays just for Squally. He's fresh and, if reports from former players who've attended practices are to be believed, he's the best option we have at this point other than Algie, who has been perpetually dinged up this year. If Squally shows well in his first 3-4 plays, he may get more playing time in the second half.

any chance he gets used in the return game? Burt has been a bright spot, but we could use a fresh burst there.
