BYU went back & credited Collinsworth w/ a 10th reb

He now has seven career triple-doubles.

It seemed like they missed one, but now it kind of takes the air out of the accomplishment. Sports center won't be as a big a pickup on highlights a day later. Congrats to him, it was great to see him play his game for really the first time this year.

When the game ended Saturday night, Collinsworth was one rebound shy of the triple-double with 26 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists. The triple-double was not made official until Sunday morning when the NCAA approved a 10th rebound and an additional shot attempt for the 6-foot-6 Provo, Utah, native. Collinsworth missed a shot with 2:54 remaining in the first half and made a clear attempt to follow the missed shot with a left-handed tip, which missed and was secured by a Belmont player. Collinsworth was originally not given credit for the offensive rebound or a shot attempt on the tip.

It was actually with 2:54 left to go at end of game. I called it out to my wife last night and said he had not received credit for it. It was a tricky tip back that missed. Credit NCAA for getting it right. Boo on our home stats guys for screwing that up and stealing KCs Thunder. Although, he isn't lacking in confidence and prone to some arrogance.

The BYU news report got it wrong. The national sports (CBS sports) one got it right. (And actually they were partially right. They claimed it was his 10th, when it really was his ninth, BC he had one after that).

Regardless, way to go KC! It would be amazing to see him shatter the record with a few more and never see it broken. Really folks, think about it Shaq, one of the most physically dominating figures in modern basketball held the record. And it's now KCs. Keep hitting your FTs brother, and you will end up in the NBA.

And he played really good shut down D on Belmonts best player after Rose finally realized the dude was going to have a career night.

So the NCAA will go back and change a stat line and credit Collinsworth with a triple-double, but in an appeal to a targeting penalty, in which the NCAA agrees with the appeal that targeting did not occur, they don't change the accompanying suspension?

Now you're mixing football and basketball. One is controlled by the NCAA governing body and one is overseen by a figurehead much like the Queen of England.

Michigan State fans are making some noise today in claiming that Magic Johnson really holds the record with 10, or something like that. The problem is that the NCAA didn't keep track of assists until the early 80s when Johnson was long gone into the NBA.

They could have a legit argument, magic was an incredible assist man. Wonder if anyone has enough Time on their hands to go back and watch all his games and appeal to the NCAA. Doubt they'd allow it though. Besides, no one complained when he record was set at 6.

This is totally funny and ironic that you mention Magic. I got lit up by several CC dudes for comparing KC to Magic in terms of the impact he would have on this team. Kudos to me. :-)

I'm glad he got this, and even more glad he got it out of the way early this season. For those who watched the game, it was apparent with about 8 minutes to go that the object of the game for the Cougars became getting KC his triple double, with coaches yelling at players who dared dish for an assist "Run it through Kyle!!". They completely changed lineups, the offense, and the defense to get KC more boards and assists. It was a good situation with the game in hand to push for individual stats. Now they never have to, and more importantly Kyle never has to, worry about getting the record.



For the rest of the year there is no more pressure to change things up to benefit KC--everyone can focus on the team outcome without the record lingering in the back of their minds.

Agreed. It was a little embarrassing to Rose. And to have him in at the end could be bad form. But I suspect Blemont gets the need for credibility and press! Just too dang bad the stat guys choked. Could have made good press nationally. But I got to believe that this will not be his last and the press/espn will give due credit if it haooens again.
