BYU vs Belmont

BYU is doing the same thing in this game as they did in the Utah St game and that is coming out not ready to play. BYU need to put 2 solid half of play and not this one half so so and the other half good routine. every game so far BYU has had one good half and on not so good half and it is costing them in this game.

Down 42-40 at the half.

Now up by 14. I sure wish BYU's coaches knew how to make half time adjustments. :whistle: :roll:

Emery is already really good. Very fun to watch.

He has played very well and I think he is the leading scorer. Smart player, active and I think a good defender.

Kyle Collinsworth is special. That is all.

Team looked a lot better in the 2nd half. Started with our defense. Much more intense and activ, and the defense created the offense. Hope the team recognized it.



Emery is legit. If he can keep doing what he's doing and KC doesn't get too greedy, this team could put together a decent run or two given the bigs that we have.

I only watched the 2nd half but that was the best I've seen BYU play since the first half of Ole Miss(ery).



This was a game that we saw KC miss a Triple-Double because of having Davis on the floor, which is a good thing for the team.



Solid second half. Future is bright with Emery, it's going to be fun to see all the other players returning.



Scary that this team depends so much on Fischer. If he's on, BYU is a whole different animal, when he's off, they become pretty easy to defend....

I agree BYU played much better in the second half. Emery is legit and is going to be good but BYU needs to be more consistant in their play. BYU needs to put two solid halves together if they want to beat Utah.

My notes from the game:



Belmont was a well-coached skilled team. Bradshaw killed us in the first half until we started to pay attention on D. They had several guys in the post that scored on us. This game was probably a good warm up to doubling the post and sticking to shooters for the Utah game.



Overall we beat them by driving the ball, collapsing the D and moving the to an advantage. Big picture we may have gotten a taste of the defensive focus we need to play well.



Emery is a stud, but he was gassed a several times. Rose needs to find him a few more minutes of rest. He really does it all. Well except post up... that might be coming :evil: .



KC finally looked like himself. In the second half he went into Beast mode on the boards for a few minutes. He even hit a pull-up jumper. More importantly he was getting to the line and hit most of his FT's.



Davis might be finding his role as a garbage man/finisher on offense and a force on the defensive boards. He also hit another 3. Seems like we should find a few more plays for him to shoot 3's.



Fisher got fouled on a drive missed his first FT but made his second. That took the lid off the basket. Other than one wild pull up 3 from deep, he had better shot selection.



Kaufusi struggled with post D and was taken out of the game with foul trouble. We will need him to be better against Utah.



Austin came in for him and made some important plays in the post defensively.



Aytes didn't come up with a lot of stats but with Kaufusi struggling we needed someone to play some minutes and battle in post.



Toolson also made a nice contribution with a pair of 3's. But I wonder if a less athletic Belmont team made him more comfortable.



Chatman and Calvert made brief appearances but weren't seen again.

Your post is good but we beat them because they simply ran out of gas due to the high elevation. BYU did play better defense but BYU finding the range on 3s helped. DRiving the ball to the basket is what gave Belmont the lead in the first half. It was the unselfish play in the second half as was shown by KC having 10 assists and only 2 turnovers instead of his usual 4-5 and Emery taking the game into his own hands that did more than anything to help BYU win. Kafusi picked a couple of bogus fouls where the offensive player would put a hand in his chest and push him away and Kufusi would be called for the fouls instead of it being an offensive foul as it should have been.

Belmont was well conditioned. And to leave it ot that is pathetic. Sometimes in some games true, but not this one.

You are wasting your time with these posers. Objectivity, logic, and common sense are not their strong suit. Now, negativity and Chicken Little syndrome? You will find that in spades. Btw, where has our multi-millionaire CEO with 10 posts from Montana gone to? Too much success from BYU as of late for his liking? Now back to the topic at hand, Coach Rose did a much better job managing substitutions and it was fun to watch the defensive intensity pick up, especially when the shots started falling and the offense was clicking. I am excited to see how this team will go to battle up on the hill this week against the Utes. Go Cougars!

Yes. I am hoping that the team was just getting to a slow start and is now finding both focus and identity, as well as a better substitution pattern.

The only players on this year's team that played last year are Collinsworth, Fischer, Kaufusi and Toolson. So really, only two players who were key to last season. The other 9 or 10 guys didn't play last year other than a just a couple of games early in the season for Austin. That is an EXTREME amount of turnover from the previous season. There is probably no other team in the country that changed that much. It just takes a few games for a bunch of players to come together, and I don't think most fans appreciate that very much. For the next several years we won't be seeing that much change year to year now.



Collinsworth is back, but he's had to learn how to play with a completely different team this year with a very different makeup. It should be encouraging to us that we seem to have figured things out a lot better against a pretty decent Belmont team. That was a great game for the development of the team because I think confidence in each other and players figuring out their roles finally came together. I think we'll start to see some exciting play now.
