Rooting Guide Week



The goals for BYU are:



1. To win as many games as possible

2. To achieve the highest ranking possible

3. To play the best bowl team possible

4. To be better than Utah



If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:



A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.



BYU over Fresno St.



B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because there is no reason to cheer for Utah



UCLA over Utah



C. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS which does help our overall ranking



Boise St. over Air Force

Cincinnati over South Florida

East Carolina over UCF

Michigan over Penn St.

Missouri over Tennessee

San Jose St. over Hawaii

UConn over #19 Houston

Utah St. over Nevada

Wagner over Sacred Heart



D. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU unless it allows the Big 12 champ to get into the playoff. Also, cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked cheer for the team with more probable losses in their future (Of course rules A-C trump rule D).



#1 Clemson over Wake Forest

#2 Alabama over Charleston Southern

#3 Ohio St. over #9 Michigan St.

#4 Notre Dame over Boston College

Purdue over #5 Iowa

#10 Baylor over #6 Oklahoma St.

#18 TCU over #7 Oklahoma

Florida Atlantic over #8 Florida

Chattanooga over #14 Florida St.

Tulsa over #16 Navy

Virginia Tech over #17 North Carolina

Temple over #21 Memphis

#15 LSU over #22 Ole Miss

#24 USC over #23 Oregon (If USC wins out they win the Pac 12 South, which means Utah doesn't)

#25 Wisconsin over #20 Northwestern



E. Cheer for teams playing teams that could eventually be ranked ahead of BYU (unless it violates rules A-D).



Syracuse over NC St.

Georgia Tech over Miami

Virginia over Duke

Louisville over Pitt

Florida International over Western Kentucky

Arkansas over Mississippi St.

Vanderbilt over Texas A&M

Georgia Southern over Georgia



F. Root for the best bowl matchup. We will play a Pac-12 team in Vegas or an AAC team in Hawaii (unless it violates rules A-E)



Washington St. over Colorado

Washington over Oregon St.

Arizona over Arizona St.



G. Root for the weakening of the Big 12 to keep them out of the playoff and move them toward expansion (unless it violates rules A-F)



Iowa St. over Kansas St.

Kansas over West Virginia



H. Root for the little guy. Because it is fun



Army over Rutgers

Idaho over Auburn

Charlotte over Kentucky

Citadel over South Carolina



I. It really doesn’t matter



All other games.
