Game just started. Many on this board have suggested that we add Nevada to the MWC. SMU has been awful but this year they made it to a bowl. I suspect that we should add SMU over Nevada because projecting forward, they will be a tough team and they are in Texas. Plus when they come to play us we can replay the Miracle bowl!!!!

SMU up 7-0.

SMU makes alot more sense than Nevada does. The only WAC team that makes any sense is Boise State. Fresno and UNR have ultra-trashy fanbases (seriously, I've travelled to games at both places...think Utah (but even more drunken), or Wyoming (but more thuggish)), and frankly aren't any good (our #5 team beat their #3, and our last placed team beat their #2). I would rather add any combination of SMU, Houston, Tulsa, or even Utah State than Fresno or UNR.

It's now 17-0. I'm thinking that if you put SMU in the MWC, they would become another TCU like team.

I'm waiting for WestIDahoCoug and his WAC homer bias to show up. WAC is working on an 0-fer.

5th best MWC team > 3rd best WAC team

4th best C-USA team > 2nd best WAC team

Best MWC team will likely > Best WAC team

The real nail biter will be whether the 5th best MAC team > 4th best WAC team

Does the WAC have a chance to win any bowl games this year?

Why, because they beat Nevada? Really? You know who else beat Nevada? Yep, CSU, and they did it when Nevada HAD their two 1,000 yard backs. If you put SMU in the MWC, they'd be another CSU.

Hey I am back!!! I will gladly eat any crow and say the WAC is HORRIBLE!!!! Just to clarify my position once again I have repeatedly said the WAC is terrible terrible terrible. Not once have I said they are good. Ever.

They are proving that they are very mediocre this year, at least in the bowl games.

I will stand by all my statements that beside the Big Three, the MWC is just as bad as the WAC though. As much as I would love it to not be true, BSU, Utah, TCU, and BYU are the only quality teams in either conference. The rest are crap.

I would be very surprised if Ault continued as head coach at Nevada. That bowl game was pathetic.

So, I will now go on the record saying that Nevada does not belong anywhere but a crappy conference. SMU just played their way in for me in any expansion.

I do still think that Boise will make a pretty good game with TCU, its just a shame one of them has to lose.

I wouldn't say "very mediocre," I'd say downright ABYSMAL. If the WAC didn't have BSU, they'd be competing with the Sun Belt for the worst conference in America. Don't try to sugar coat it by saying that "only BYU, Utah, and TCU are good from the MWC," because the MWC middle of the pack teams have shown that they are superior to the WAC's high end teams. Sorry, although you may have never SAID the WAC is good, you imply it in almost every post.

So all that proves is that the MWC middle of the pack teams are a shade better than horrible.....?? Sorry....but that is the truth.

BSU is on par with TCU, Utah, and BYU, but I really do think after those four teams it is a crapshoot for who would be the best (or worst) team out of the rest of both conferences. This year it would definitely not be anyone from the WAC.

I gladly admit the WAC is crappy, abysmal, whatever you want to say. But I cant in the same breath say that UNLV, SDSU, CSU, Woming, or New Mexico are "good" without feeling like I would have to lie to get a temple recommend....

Well, 6-6 Wyoming (MWC #5) just beat WAC #3 so the MWC is better than the WAC top to bottom and the conference as a whole is pretty good

Not only that, but remember that lowly CSU beat the WAC's second best team. To say the bottom of the MWC is comparable to the WAC in light of that is just silly.

I would still add Boise State, Fresno State, and Nevada.

Fresno State would be a rival for SDSU, which would strengthen both.

Nevada would be a rival for UNLV, which would strengthen both.

FSU has great football attendance, Nevada has GREAT basketball, and both open up more California recruiting grounds.

Except that the #5 MWC team is better than the #3 WAC team, and the #9 MWC team is better than the #2 WAC team, right?

You are correct this year. But if you want to analyze it that way, the #8 WAC team is better than the #8 MWC team (NMSU>NM). The #9 WAC team is a couple of plays from beating the #3 MWC team (Utah>SJSU). The #4 WAC team is better than the #7 (SDSU) and #9 CSU teams. Using the transitive property to compare teams doesnt make sense....in the long term.

I think we should look at programs over time rather than one victory in a given season to determine what/who is a better program.

Fresno State>Wyoming - As much as we all want to pat ourselves on the back and say Wyoming is a great team, they are not a great program. Fresno is much more dedicated to athletics and brings much more to the table than Wyoming. Fresno has a much better reputation nationally than Wyoming.

Nevada=CSU - CSU will hopefully return to form soon, but these two programs are fairly equivalent. UNR has some major coaching and thug player issues this year, but do have a good program. They may scare us next season, so before we bash them too much, lets objectively give them some credit.

I think all of these teams suck this year though. We (the MWC) and BYU are really being dragged down by the giant anchor of horrible teams on the bottom of the conference. When most talk about the MWC being great, they talk about BYU, Utah, and TCU. When has anyone else in the MWC been great, or even better than just decent? The conference needs more national cachet and depth for an AQ status, which only BSU, Fresno and one other team TBD could bring. Hawaii, Nevada, SMU, Tulsa?

Dont fool yourself into thinking the MWC besides the big three is the PAC-10 or SEC transplanted in the Mountain Time Zone. It is really just the shiniest turd amongst the non-AQ's, unless the MWC is willing to go out and make itself great by expanding to make a power conference.

If it doesnt happen the shine will disappear and the smell will return eventually......

So, what you're basically saying is that MWC teams 4-9 are about equal to WAC teams 2-9? Do you not see the problem with the conclusion that the conferences are about the same?

You're like the UW fans saying that, if you take away Steve Young and Jim McMahon, UW QB's have started far more NFL games than BYU QB's.

You can go ahead and be the only BYU fan that thinks the MWC and WAC are the same. You really need to quit trying to justify BSU's crap schedule.

I think it's fair to say that in the race of #5-#9 in the MWC and #2-#9 is pretty much a crapshoot every year, but that still puts the MWC head, shoulders, and probably waist above the lowly WAC.

I will agree with this, with one exception.

MWC #4-9 and WAC #3-9 are about the same.

This year and last are exceptions.

Air Forces program is not elite or above Fresno's or Nevada's or Hawaii's. We cant discount the fact that Hawaii was a perennial ranked team for three or four years and did play in the Sugar Bowl.

The last couple of years have been favorable to the MWC. I do not discount that and I am not trying to pimp BSU. BSU is much better than the WAC. But BYU is also much better than the MWC (sans Utah and TCU).

I just am dumbfounded at how a lot of us are trying to build up horrible football teams/programs for the benefit of BYU and the MWC. Since when did Wyoming or SDSU become good????

What are the 4 years Hawaii finished ranked, and what were their final rankings those years? What a silly uneducated statement. They even finished ranked BEHIND BYU after playing in the Sugar bowl.

Right... you just said that Nevada would finish ahead of BYU and Utah in the MWC.
