Rooting Guide Week 9



1. To win as many games as possible

2. To achieve the highest ranking possible

3. To play the best bowl team possible

4. To be better than Utah



If you want to see these goals accomplished here is your rooting guide:



A. Cheer for BYU. Duh.



Bye week. Stay healthy and safe.



B. Cheer for the team playing Utah. Because there is no reason to cheer for Utah



Oregon St. over Utah



C. Cheer for BYU’s opponents. This helps SOS which does help our overall ranking



Boise St over UNLV

Cincinnati over UCF

East Carolina over UConn (East Carolina has a better chance at a bowl)

Michigan over Minnesota

Nebraska over Purdue

UCLA over Colorado

Utah St. over Wyoming

Wagner over Duquense



D. Cheer for teams playing teams ranked ahead of BYU. Also, cheer for unranked teams vs. ranked teams. If both teams are ranked cheer for the team with more probable losses in their future (Of course rules A-C trump rule D).



NC St. over #3 Clemson

West Virginia over #5 TCU

Washington St. over #8 Stanford

#21 Temple over #9 ND (We do want the undefeated AAC teams to lose, but only to other AAC teams. We want a quality bowl opponent and we could be playing an AAC team in Hawaii)

Maryland over #10 Iowa

Georgia over #11 Florida

Texas Tech over #12 Oklahoma St.

Kansas over #14 Oklahoma

Tulane over #16 Memphis

Syracuse over #17 Florida St.

#18 Houston over Vandy (See Temple game explanation)

Auburn over #19 Ole Miss

Miami over #22 Duke

North Carolina over #23 Pitt (Both teams are 1 loss teams and the winner will be ranked. North Carolina's loss is to a terrible South Carolina team and they will be easier to catch in the polls)



E. Cheer for teams playing teams that could eventually be ranked ahead of BYU (unless it violates rules A-D).



South Carolina over Texas A&M

Tennessee over Kentucky

Rutgers over Wisconsin

Illinois over Penn St.



F. Root for the best bowl matchup. We will play a Pac-12 team in Vegas or an AAC team in Hawaii (unless it violates rules A-E)



Oregon over Arizona St. (Both teams have the same record, but Oregon is a stronger brand)

Cal over USC (Cal has a better record)

Arizona over Washington (AZ is more likely to finish 7-5 than UW)

Navy over South Florida

Tulsa over SMU



G. Cheer for the FCS team. Because it is fun (unless it violates rules A-F)



Tennesee Martin over Arkansas



H. It really doesn’t matter



All other games.

I think this week will have a lot of shakeups for the top 25.



Here's my storylines I'll be following:



1. If Tulane somehow beats Memphis, I will LOSE MY MIND. Go green wave!!!!



2. At least one of the SEC pairings will have an unranked winner. Probably Auburn over Ole Miss.



3. The ACC will beat up itself. I think Miami and UNC have legit shots at taking down their ranked opponents. I doubt NC State has a chance on Clemson, but Clemson is one of those teams that tends to lose some random game somewhere.



4. Houston will destroy Vandy. I will be sad, because Vandy is one of my teams (I went there for a part of school and grew up in Nashville).
