Boom Shakalaka Notes

KC did not participate.



In the scrimmages I noted the following:



Aytes looks very powerful and quick. His rhythm wasn't there but you could see the talent.



Sejalass(sp?) was smoked several times by Toolson. He didn't look ready for big minutes.



Toolson was initiating the offense, scoring off the ball and his generally looking a step faster than last year.



Elijah Bryant won't play this year but he play point guard for part of the scrimmage and made a bunch of advanced uses of misdirection.



Emery made two of three great plays and a couple of freshman plays.



Fischer, Kaufusi and Austin looked the same.



Calvert made a few smart plays and looks like he'll be a part of the rotation.



I know Davis played but I can't remember a single thing he did.



Chatman showed some ability to slash but defensively he didn't use his natural talent well enough.



Based on what little I saw I would say the starters may be:



KC

Fischer

Toolson

Aytes

Kaufusi



Emery, Calvert, Austin and Davis being the primary subs.

I just watched it last night and I think you're spot on. Why didn't KC participate? I didn't hear any explanations.



Also, we had some terrible camera views/angles at times. The intros were not timed well, with the camera, announcing, and the players coming out all being off sync. At first the 3 point competition had the camera focused on the player but not the basket so I had no idea if the shots were going in. And during the 3 minute dunk fest the camera would often show the players after the dunk, but not during the actual dunk. Also, I'm a big fan of BYU Sports Nation, but Spencer Linton and Jarom Jordan often seemed like they didn't know what to say and the gal doing the interviews didn't know how to do interviews. A fun event, but it had the feel of a high school production. This was my first time watching Boom Shakalaka so maybe it's gotten better? But then, that would mean it used to be worse than this? This is the third time BYU has done it but it felt like a first time event slapped together at the last second.



I don't mean to be a basher. I want BYUTV to have more events like this, I just want them to be a bit higher in quality...

KC is hurt.



Knee pain.

If Kc's knee is out all predictions will need recycling unless it's temporary and he'll return to 90 to 100%. Who won what in this?

I looked it up. Jordan Chatman won the skills competition with Cory Calvert 2nd. Jake Toolson and his lady partner won the three point competition beating Fisher and his partner. Kaufusie won the dunk contest. I didn't see a second place.



If KC can keep healthy this team is going to be very good. We'll have and inside outside game.
