SPECTACULAR Defense the last three games!

Over the last three games against Air Force (7-5), Utah (9-3), Oregon St (8-4) the Cougars played spectacular defense.



Teams averaged just 17.3 first downs. They averaged just 3.5 yards per rush. Their passing efficiency was a paltry 79.04. Opponents completed just 43% of their passes against us. They threw four INTs. And teams converted just 34% of 3rd downs. Utah and Oregon St were a combined 9-34 on 3rd down for 26.5%.



Huge props to Bronco, Hill and the players for coming up with highly effective game plans to stop opposing offenses and then executing them at a very high level.

Our D is really good, they have just got really beat up during the OU game, and they where not Healthy during FSU, and well TCU is just better then us this year.

Clearly the FSU game was an anomaly. No team, except FSU averaged more than 3.8 ypc against us. FSU was 6.4 FSU converted 80% on 3rd down. We held six other teams to 33% or worse and seven teams under 37%.

BINGO! Here is our answer folks. Nothing against Craig Bills who is going to be a terrific player but Scott Johnson is the QB of the defense and he is the person who gets the defense in position on every play.

Expect the coaches to have someone ready to replace Johnson before the season starts. Remember that Bills was just a freshman, early in his first season with the team. There will be several options for them to work with, who will have good knowledge of the system, and either move up or move from another position. We have the best d-backfield in years, and most are returning.



I have said it before, and will continue to say it---expect a different game from the Cougs next season against FSU. I think that they have well established that speed wasn't THE factor that made us lose to FSU, it was just A factor. I fully expect a very competitive game, and a good chance for a win next year.

I think Rich will come back with a vengeance next year and fill Johnson's shoes nicely as the qb of the defense.
