Spurs cut Jimmer. I'm skeptical another team pics him up. His NBA career is likely over.

Welcome to Europe Jimmer!

Rumors are the Knicks, Jazz, and Sun's are interested in him. There may be life yet in his NBA career. He'll have to decide whether he wants to sit on the bench another year in the NBA or go over seas and actually play.

NBA pension = 7 years, correct? If you can make an NBA team, I say go for the pension. If nobody wants you in NBA, then go overseas...

Interesting article on perhaps why he struggled in the NBA... not a stats guru, can anyone confirm or shed light on the numbers they quoted?

Read the same article and it was something we chatted about a bit on here. I think someone may have even pulled some similar stats on here as to how many shots per game Jimmer took versus his points. Some even called him a ball hog on here. I certainly remember being critical of his lack of passing. There was a great clip of Noah Hartsock yelling, "Pass the ball" in frustration to Jimmer jacking up a shot and missing it while Noah was wide open underneath. I think that epitomizes Jimmer.

In the day, I defended or excused Jimmer's ball hogging because when he was on, why not keep feeding him the ball. Plus, between Emery (not a great shooter), Davies, Hartsock and Abuou, where were the points going to come from. All of those guys were streaky too.

Essentially, from a points per shot and shooting percentage, Jimmer wasn't that great. His took a ton of shots and because he made them somewhat consistently, you couldn't really make a case for him to stop taking so many shots. Helps that they were spectacular too. A good comparison would be Jimmer vs Haws. Need to look at the numbers, but I bet Haws took substantially fewer shots despite breaking Jimmer's record.

In short, Jimmer likes to score...and that's about it. He's not a good ball distributor and he still looks lost on defense. While I don't think Jimmer ever flat out told his NBA coaches that they were stupid and they should turn their offense over to him, I suspect deep inside Jimmer wants the offense turned over to him and he likely thinks he could shoulder a teams' offense.

If he ever wants to play in the NBA again he needs to do two things:

1) Distribute the ball. Given his size, his only hope of playing time is at PG. He needs to become selfless and create for others. There are plenty 6'5" guys in the NBA that are spot up shooters. There's no room for a 6'2" (maybe) spot up shooter that can't defend. Jimmer wants to run an offense, even in relief, he needs to become a legit PG. Steph Curry, is a tremendous shooter but he also routinely racks up 10+ assists a night. Assists need to become Jimmer's game and honestly, I'm not sure that's in him.

2) Try on defense. It's been a while since I saw Jimmer play in the NBA, but last time I did he basically bobbed up and down on his toes with his hands at his side while playing defense. He looked lost out there. Flat. Forget about improving lateral speed, etc he just needs to put effort into it. Get his hands up, squat down and get in a defensive stance. He doesn't even look like he's playing defense. A lot of players suck at defending in the NBA but they at least look like they are playing defense. You can't tell me Dellawhatever has quicker lateral speed than Jimmer, but no one would argue Jimmer is a better defender than Dellawhatever and that's simply because Dellawhatever puts some effort into defending.

Jimmer as a lot of work to do and it's almost all mental. He needs to let go of the glory days.

Statistics, statistics, and darn statistics. I was not impressed. It seems the guy is mostly trying to say Jimmer is average to below average (despite his statement about being above average). Tell that to all the teams Jimmer scorched.

First, I have to question his numbers. Anyone can manipulate numbers to show what they want. I would like to see his breakdown to number of PG's. C's and F's usually have fairly high shooting percentages and if you only take about 4 or 5 shots a game from right in front of the basket then it is probably true that they would have a higher percentage. By this guys logic, then just from recent BYU teams, Josh Sharp, Skyler Halford, Nate Austin, and Brock Zylstra were all "better" than Jimmer. And he implies that there were 773 2pt shooters and 189 3pt shooters that were better than Jimmer. So why were they not selected ahead of Jimmer in the draft?

Second, did he account for teams focusing on Jimmer? In every game they played, Jimmer was the entire focus of the other team's defense.

Third, Jimmer led the NBA his first couple of years in points per minutes played. What would have happened if they let him play more minutes? Oh yeah, when he did get more minutes he scored in double figures. And if you look at the game logs, when he got zero minutes, his percentages were generally lower the next game he did play in. They seemed to go up the more he played, funny how that works.

Lastly, I love the one anonymous guy said (in this case an assistant coach) Jimmer demanded they just keep giving him the ball. Every article I have ever read regarding Jimmer's NBA career has been coaches getting on him for not shooting enough. This flies in the face of what this guy claims. Why would every head coach that Jimmer had in the NBA tell reporters that if in reality he was shooting too much?

I don't know this guys endgame (he teaches at SUU and is a grad from Nebraska Wesleyan and Col St., I imagine it is to continue to push his brand of statistics for determining who the "real" "best" players are. I don't even have to look them up but I would bet a body part that he would use the same arguments against Jordan, Jabbar, Magic, and Lebron. Well, he can have his stats, I'll take a team with those four in their prime and my 14 year old son against any other five players he finds to be the best statistically. It would be so one sided my son would probably score in double figures.

BTW - anyone know what NBA team he played for? I can't find him on any NBA roster but he did say Jimmer contributed to less wins than he did. This was kind of funny too since Jimmer was on some pretty bad teams and only came in for a few minutes so it is pretty hard to make that big of an impact when you don't get to play very much.

Just looked at his article, it appears he means Juimmer produced fewer wins than him because Jimmer had a negative score by this guy's calculations and I suppose since this guy never played his score would be zero.

From the onset, his tone appears to be one of "I told you Jimmer wouldn't pan out" or "He wasn't that good." He definitely isn't reporting, he's editorializing.

Just finished the article. Not sure what this guy is after, but he lacks sources and facts other than his own formulas and friends. I suspect he is trying to use the fame of Jimmer to help boost his theories and get hits on his page. I guess it's workimg to some degree - now I'm sorry I clicked on the link.

Problem with that logic is that it assumes that Jimmer never scored a point in any wins otherwise Jimmer would have helped in the cause. Even a 1 and 1000 record is still more wins than a 0 and 0 record. That would be a .001 winning percentage as opposed to a 0 winning percentage. Even in soccer it would be 3 point vs 0 points. A meangless statement as well as a useless statistic.

I also remember Jimmer as a ball hog who wouldn't pass to wide open teammates. I don't think I ever vocalized it here for fear of being lynched (Jimmer seriously had god-like status during his last two seasons). I think you make a lot of great points and your Jimmer vs Haws comparison got me thinking. So I put together a comparison of their senior seasons:

Jimmer.PNG
Haws.PNG

What I see here is that Haws was a more efficient scorer at a lower rate (although I wouldn't mind seeing a True Shooting %) although Jimmer was better at assists (despite my recollection of him being a ball hog) and steals. Plus, Jimmer could just take over a game. Overall, according to my Player Efficiency Rating Jimmer had the better senior season. I think we would see that Haws was better as a Fr and So but Jimmer just exploded as a Jr and Sr.
