So, that sucked

A few things....



1. Mangum showed his Freshman today. It was bound to happen sometime.



2. I always thought this would be the toughest of the first 4 games. Got worse when it became an early east time zone game after a late west coast game.



3. We can sustain 2 or 3 injuries. We can't sustain with 6 injuries.



4. Defense played much better in the 2nd half.



5. Mangum never climbs up in the pocket, he always rolls right at first pressure. Needs more poise and pocket presence.



6. Too much travel in 4 weeks. Need to figure this out going forward.

1. Magnum was fine it was the overly conservative and predictable play calling by Anae that showed. It was bound to happen.



2. This was BYU's weakest opponent out of the first 4 and BYU fails to show up.



3. You maybe right although I don't think BYU had that many going into this game.



4. Your right there to a point as Michigan offense help by being conservative.



5. Mangum actually steps up into the pocket at the first sign of pressure when he should be rolling out and the lack of bootleg plays where Magnum is at his best showed as well. also the lack of protection also shows what is needed is better protection of the QB by the O-line and Mangum will be fine.



6. No more than the rest of the nation, but yeah BYU needs to figure this out.



7. do a better job of play calling on offense and wrapping up on defense.

1. Wrong. Mangum absolutely stunk. He scrambled when he didn't need to. He was hesitant in putting the ball where his receivers could make a play. He scrambled into defenders for unnecessary sacks.



2. Undetermined as of now. Michigan has a better record than Nebraska as of now.



3. The exact number is hard to tell, but having 7 or 8 starters out is hard for a team like BYU.



4. Not super conservative with a 4th down fake punt and a 4th down try.



5. Mangum has a lot to improve on. He got some pressure, but he also reacted poorly even when there wasn't pressure, putting himself in poor location.



6. How many other teams have played in 4 different time zones in the first 4 weeks?



7. Offense and defense needs to execute better. From coaches down to players.



8. Bronco will be outcoached, it happens to every single coach.

On the fake punt, the punter got reamed out by the coaches for being an idiot. That was one player calling a dumb coverage-based audible outside of the context of the game.



If anything, going for it on 4th down towards the end of the fourth quarter was the most conservative thing the Michigan coaches did all game. They could have taken a chipshot field goal and pushed the score to 34-0 and then kicked the ball off to BYU. Instead, they opted to run the ball, drain the clock, and pin BYU deep without risking a special teams failure. That call was to conserve the shutout, not to run up the score.



You want a textbook on ball control offense when up by two or more scores? Michigan just gave a free audit course to a nationwide audience. If Michigan felt the need to score in the second half, nothing I saw in those two quarters led me to believe BYU could stop them.
