The Virginia/UCLA college football game drew a 1.1 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon.



The Bruins’ comfortable win was easily the lowest rated college football game on broadcast in the metered markets. It was barely half the draw of ABC’s competing BYU/Nebraska game (2.0) and was more-than-doubled by Louisville/Auburn on CBS (2.6).

And I wonder how many times the Hail Mary has been viewed on ESPN.com and YouTube?

Another reason that independence is the right place for us to be right now. Lots of opportunities to play different big-name programs every season to increase visibility.

I'm watching a game right now and the BYU vs BSU game has been displayed twice. Once billed as one of the best five match-ups of the weekend and another as one of the three closest Vegas spreads.

And why is it on ESPN2? It should be on ESPN. I just checked. It says that LSU-Miss St is on. It must be a rerun that late. They should flip the two games.

BYU BSU 1.027M viewers. Just less than ECU Florida at 1.047M in the slot before us. Solid number.

BYU-UCLA drew 946K on the crapping FS1 at a late night time slot. That is their 2nd best rating in the first 3 weeks of the season. Very solid number.

BYU/Michigan drew a 2.5 overnight. There was no comparable window last year. The Wolverines’ blowout win ranked third for the weekend among college football telecasts.





The Cougars averaged a 2.53 household rating; the Utes' 62-20 annihilation of the Ducks averaged a 2.1 household rating.

Utah averaged 2.97 million viewers; the viewership numbers for the BYU game aren't in yet.

UConn 1.240M solid number for ESPN2 on a Friday night.

273K viewers on ESPNU. It's a crappy channel but I expected more for a great game. It was the highest rated game of the day on the channel.

what makes me laugh is the replay of the game at 3am drew the same as the live UNLV/Fresno St game.



Something else I found interesting is I saw nothing on the Boise St/Utah St game.

We finished the year off with the LVB 2.2 rating 3.675M viewers. Excellent and with a poor start to the game.

The BYU's games the first 4 weeks were the #1 watched games those 4 weekes and the UConn, ECU, and Cincy had far better rating than any of the Ute's games those weeks even though Utah was playing for a playoff bid. The Mizzou game was one of the top rated games that saturday even though there were big games that had playoff implications that Saturday.

There was some talk before Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl that a game between two teams from Utah would not be a draw nationally.



Not true. The Utah-BYU matchup was a considerably bigger national draw than a bowl between teams from Utah and Colorado. And bigger than a bowl between two teams from California.



Saturday's Las Vegas Bowl not only rebounded from low ratings for the 2014 game, it led the opening day of the bowl season by a considerable margin.



The Utes' 35-28 win over the Cougars averaged a 2.2 national rating, up a whopping 57 percent from the 2014 game that featured Utah beating Colorado State 45-10, which averaged a 1.4 rating.
