Thanks for posting this Ungoy. From this I have the following observations.



Hine runs fast and hard. Maybe the 2 runs shown were his only 2 good ones but he has potential.



There might be 2 DEs in the nation better than Kafusi but they better keep their games up.



BYU's receivers are in the top 10 in the nation and probably in the top 5. They are DB nightmares with their height, speed, and hands. Mathews had half the Nebraska dbs on him and not only brought down the ball but put it in the endzone.



It doesn't look like we're losing too much at qb. Mangum is very good on his feet and his passes... well watch his last throw. That throw to Mathews will be replayed countless times, maybe as much as McMahan's to brown. It doesn't hurt his confidence either.



T. Hill could have been outstanding and possibly all american at running back, linebacker, tight end or safety. This from a guy that would be all american at qb this year.

Seriously the best part of that entire video is Houk hugging the ref after he makes the TD symbol. LOL! I think that is the funniest thing I have ever seen a football player do in a game.

I know it's a long weekend and folks are riding the manic high and why not!!!

So amazing and cool. And tomorrow and the next day or two the fantasy suite is going to end and rebuilding parts of the ship have to take place.



Hine is good in some situations. He needs space to get running and if he does, he can get there in a hurry. But he's not going to be all world anytime soon. ANAE used him amazingly well--particualrly on that high risk draw toward end of game.



Kaufusi is an amazing talent and will play at next level. But when Tuiloma went down, BKs stats went down as well. TT is such a load that BK was wreaking havoc. TT will be sorely missed!



Don't know how bad Pikula is hurt, but he is very solid and allows Langi more freedom to roam. Otherwise, MLBs aren't as good without MP. Although with TakiTaki back, he and Warner are going to be very good as OLBs. And Langi, with all his flying around the ball has to add some fundamentals. At times He was overpursuing and not real sure handed in his tackling. I know he will come along and might now be the best athlete on the team.



MM. One miracle catch does not a season make. He had several outs where he should have drug his toes rather than leaping and landing out of bounds. He is a hero and he will have a great year. And there will be more pressure on him as THE Sr leader to make serious plays. But top five in the country? A little mania setting in with your declaration. WRs are the best unit on the O now that THill is out and RBs are suspect. Throw in Trey Dye and he is the only really speedy dude and sorely missed in this game. He will emerge as a critical piece of the O with Jamal out. So, yes, a great WR group but top 5? We shall see.



TM. As much as I have touted him as the next great QB at BYU. He is still a freshman. maybe one of the best freshman in the country. Up there with Rosen? We shall see. Amazing and as rare as THill,just in different ways. He will eclipse all freshman records at BYU. But, he is still in his first year. There will be some bumps. And as for "the throw" he acknowledged that it wasn't a good throw. One throw may make him legend, but it won't always win games just chucking it up. I hope Cougar Naton does not out too much pressure on him after this legends moment. But a rare find and an amazing kid. No hubris there. So impressive. He may even get up to speed faster than Stewart did last year.



TH. All American at all those positions? I'm not sure that honors very well what he actually did accomplish. It's just manic to say that. But was he the most gifted athlete to ever play at BYU? probably. Could he have beenAll American at QB this year? Probably yes. So. So sad. But an amazing person with so much taller at various things.



Anyway, hopefully Nacua adds a lot on D. He was missed. Once TT went out, the middle was a sponge cake and the DBs, who knows. Is davis out? Micah had an amazing INT but seemed to really struggle on coverage. Good QBs will carve our secondary up. There are some real vulnerabilities there.



Alright, it's the first game. A lot learned. A lot to improve. A lot to celebrate. But anyone who thinks our team is all-that and a bag of chips may have some wake-up calls all too soon.



GO COUGS! BEAT THE DONKS!! Saturday should be rocking in LES.

Add to the highlights the ESPN coverage. The link has the clips. Here is the commentary.





Why ESPN SportsCenter Coverage as Indy is fantastic.



The ESPN machine is poised and ready to cover BYU if magic is about to happen. I set my Tivo to not delete SportsCenter this weekend so I could catch all the coverage of the game. It was pretty cool to see how the coverage evolved throughout the night.



The videos below are a rough representation of what I noticed. The first video is the music video that leads into SC and naturally the Hail Mary is the main replay. The BYU game was covered at the very end of SportsCenter after all the ranked teams were talked about. But the anchor's (Max Bretos @mbretosESPN and Jonathan Coachman, @TheCoachESPN) made little comments about BYU throughout. It became clear if you watched that Max was bummed about the loss of Taysom, but seemed to be rooting for BYU's success. The story got bigger as the night went on...adding a highlight or two to the package, adding the Bronco reaction to the loss of Taysom, then adding a graphic to show the story of Tanner Mangum. Finally they added the clip of the team celebrating the appearance on the top ten to the end of the show. This story was different every time they reported it.



Sunday morning came and to me this is where the cool part of the BYU/ESPN story is.... BYU led off SportsCenter Sunday in a major way. The highlight was heavily featured, and the highlight package was extended and the two Sunday morning anchors (Cari Champion @CariChampion and Randy Scott @RandyScottESPN) were all about BYU. They were selling BYU like they were guest hosts on BYUSN. After the highlight they pulled in Trevor Matich and Mark May for a breakdown of..not UCLA, not Alabama, not Ohio State, Certainly not the Harbaugh's or the Utes..but BYU. Mark May even had to say some nice things about us. But the show wasn't over. Stay tuned they said for the beginning of our next hour where we will interview Tanner Mangum. Mangum's interview was fantastic and humble. Everything you would want it to be. When it was over, Cari and Randy said things like, "I don't want this story to end!"



Bottom line: While there are many drawbacks to Indy...this is the benefit of the relationship with ESPN. Overnight this story went from a game that demanded attention because of it's finish and the last game covered on SC to the lead off story, and the top story in college football. IF we keep winning the ESPN machine is pointed directly at us and we will be as relevant as anyone. I saw flashes of brilliance from taysom in that game. Flashes of Jo. Beck leading the team down field. Making reads and making plays. Was awesome. I will miss him.

His throws and reads really were very good. We will certainly miss him and his electrifying play.

The funniest thing is seeing poor Husker #12 at the bottom of the celebratory dog pile. Not only did you just pull the receiver into the endzone with you instead of pushing him away from the goal line, but now you've got 15 celebrating opponents piled on top of your tib-fib.
