See. We hate Gordon Monson too.

And I would bet that contract has dates that we have already scheduled a big game for. We can't schedule Utah when we are playing Michigan, Wisconsin et al.

This would not be surprising, since Hill has done this before. He has sent proposals for game dates to Holmoe that were not only different than what was previously agreed upon mutually, but we're in conflict with high profile games for BYU with big brand name opponents.

We know that Utah wanted one of the first 3 weeks of the season for their OOC games.

2019 Utah

8/29 Idaho State, 9/7 Northern Illinois, 9/14 OPEN

2019 BYU

8/29 OPEN (was Wisconsin), 9/7 @ Virginia, 9/14 USC



I wondered if Utah might push out Idaho State to 9/14 and play BYU on 8/29. Another possibility is @ Virginia is moved to 8/29 (Virginia has that open right now) and then Utah moves Northern Illinois and plays on 9/7. A third possibility is moving the Toledo game from 9/28 to 8/29 and playing Utah 9/28 in week 4. That would make for 3 PAC12 games in a row at HOME in 2019 (9/14 USC, 9/21 Washington, 9/28 Utah).



2020 of course has week 1 & 2 openings for BYU and weeks 1-3 open for Utah.

I'm done w Utah. Done w Smug Hill. Done w crapA Ute fans and their Sack10 garbage. They broke the rivalry; they want away with It; why beg for it? We don't need them any more than They need us, now that we are accepted as a P5 OOC worthy opponent. Don't revive it. We suck at it anyway. And I don't think its looking very good next year either for a win. And quite frankly there is just too much incivility among fans. There is too much Mormon hatred and it's only going to get worse and manifest hate in uglier ways as the world continues to spiral downward. Sorry to be such a downer. I'd rather focus on the Boise Donks, as much as I dislike them. And I'd rather lose to the Donks for that matter.

I've had enough of the Utes as well. The culture of BYU is to approach the Utah game as though it were "any other game," which translates to us losing to an inferior squad. I know, sometimes they're better than us, but not most of the time. They think that they have the upper hand to abuse us, but a win for them turns into a back-lash, as Chris Hill readily admits. "In state games are emotionally costly," Hill says, meaning that the Utes play way over their heads against us, and then, after spending all their hate to propel them past BYU, they are depleted of will, and proceed to lose to UNLV zero to 24. I for one, am weary of out-performing the Utes against similar/same opponents, and then losing to the Utes as they pour out all their hate in the one game that matters most to them.



We never needed them, but they needed us to elevate their exposure and to elevate their game, ever since the 1970's. Now they are pretending that they were always superior to us (BYU). BYU was 3 and 1 against them in the last 4 years before the PAC 10 invite was extended to them, and now they pretend that they were chosen over BYU due to on-the-field dominance.



The U of U has been reasonable at the administration level (except for their AD, and last two coaches), but Max was right when he said their fans (most) and players (many), had no class. Morgan Scally said essentially the same thing against BYU, but the local media praised him and excoriated Max.



BYU is better off without their low class bigotry and hatred.

Cmon stopping a rivalry cuz SOME fans can't act right, stupid reason not to play the game. It comes down to this really, Utes think They are Utah elite cuz the r pac12. Utes think we r under them now so losing to us cuts a deep wound. Cmon that why the r trying not to play in state games. Just make it appear to trying knowing dates r booked. Anyone with half a brain knows why Utes got the bid and not BYU. Mormon standards and our beliefs so what give me the big ten or big 12 any day. Any conf that had bill Walton count me out lol.

The reality is I have grown sick of it for all the reasons mentioned above if we never played them again that would be to soon for me.

I think Monson would have been right to call Hill's comments disingenuous or smug or mistaken or even that he might be out of touch with a majority of his fans based on the polls that he's seen. You could also call his comments condescending to Utah sports media. But in flashy Gordon Monson style, he jumps straight to "He's full of it. He's absolutely full of it. I don't know or care if Gordon Monson is a High Councilman. Does that make him above reproach somehow? Does he know or care what church calling the people he regularly skewers in the media hold? Monson is a known pot-stirrer in his professional life. That's what he does. He throws out "opinions"--often digs at people to get a reaction. It helps sells papers (or these days get clicks or advertising for the ratings it generates). If he acted in a church disciplinary council like he does on the radio, he would certainly doing those in the room a disservice.

So Hill mentioned on the radio today that the 2019 and 2020 games are the first games of the season so Utah takes the vacated 2019 Wisconsin spot. 2019' s home schedule now goes Utah (week 1), USC (week3), Washington (week 4), Boise State (week 7) so far.

I have zero interest in playing Utah in September.

I like having a rival. I don't care when the game is played. I think rivalry games are important for alumni and have a modest impact on recruiting. Playing Utah is more interesting than 90% of the games that BYU can actually schedule on a regular basis.
