That's my feelings on the season optimistic sure. Why not

I am an optimist. I pretty much agree with the above (10-2 regular season), but would add:

The two most difficult games could be won, as likely as they could be lost. I would call UCLA and Missouri as 50/50 probabilities separately, with 25 percent odds of winning them both, and the same odds of losing them both. Optimistic, yes, but unless Taysom is lost, or a minimum of four other key players are lost, then that is how I see it.

My predictions moved in a positive dIrection once I heard that Bronco's defense dominated the first full scrimmage. I refute the naysayers that say BYU has no depth of talent. The prediction above includes an assumption of up to three key players not named Taysom being out of action. If no key losses, then BYU will be quite the scary team by the time November rolls around, so, watch out, Mizzou.

I am an optimist as well. All along I had the Cougs winning 3 of the first 4 and losing a close one to Mizzou. After the scrimmage, and factoring in probable suspensions, I am really worried about NU. If Tejan is suspended for that one (which I think he might be), I think he is a difference maker in that one. I'm not as confident in a Cougar victory in Lincoln.

I'm fairly optimistic too, but 10 wins would be a fantastic season!

I don't think you can call either @UCLA or Mizzou in KC 50/50-type games. Home field easily tips the percentages in the Bruins' and Tigers' favor. More like 60/40, favoring the home teams.

IMO, Nebraska and Boise St. are quintessential 50/50 toss-up games. Nebraska because it's on the road and suspension-affected; Boise because they have scoreboard, but we have home field. So, 25% odds that we win both and equal probability for two losses.

So, 5 confident wins, 3 less-sure wins, 2 toss-ups, and 2 losses.

So,

- 10-2 fantastic season

- 9-3 good season

- 8-4 satisfactory-average

- 7-5 somewhat disappointing

- 6-6 poor season

- 5 wins or fewer = very disappointing

MesaCougFan, good point. I hope the only reason for Tejan being held out is for precautionary reasons due to his importance in the OL. Recent reports out of Lincoln indicate that Mike Reilly has suspended five Huskers for their opener with BYU. He would not say who they are or what their team positions were. So perhaps that will balance our losses a bit (IIRC, Bronco had announced that up to seven of his players would face suspension penalties).

Regarding the brawl, I really feel that Memphis should be apologizing for starting it, and that no game suspensions are warranted for BYU players, including Koroma and Nacua. The TV announcers for that game were quoted as saying that one Memphis player in particular had started the fight by running out across the field, swinging at any and all BYU players that he could reach. My wife was watching the game broadcast after I had to leave for work, and she said that several Memphis brawlers attacked Nacua and beat him severely. He was bloodied up already when he tried to retaliate. I have grown weary of references to that brawl as though both sides were equally guilty. One lazy reporter casually repeated the lie that BYU players had initiated it. Memphis actually owns the responsibility for that incident.

BYU will not go 0-4 to start the season. I think 1-3 is the worst case scenario and most likely 2-2 will be what happens. an 8-4 regular season is likely this year and anything else would be a bonus. 7-5 IMO is worst case scenario.

I can't fathom a Taysom present scenario that leads BYU to an 0-4 September. I think Lincoln may be rough (depending on our suspensions). Boise State will be tough, but it's a home game and a budding rivalry. UCLA is a top ten team at home (they'll win that one). Michigan is a disaster (Harbaugh hasn't had enough time to fix that program). I'm saying 3-1 for the Cougs in September, unless we lose in Lincoln, in that case we're 2-2 headed into October and finish 9-3.

There has been enough footage out there to show how Nacua was bloodied and he was no victim in the brawl. It was from a direct to the face punch in retaliation for punching a Memphis player who was facing away from him engaged with others.

Punch #1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EJaETwDQRg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Then when Nacua steadied himself after being staggered from that shot, he went and sucker punched ANOTHER Memphis player from behind who was engaged with others and not looking his direction.

Punch #2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6qHQEohLJA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That said, I've never seen anything from a BYU player that was worthy of kicking off a brawl. Just a push to a Memphis player who was taunting the BYU QB for throwing the interception to end the game. In my opinion, there was definitely some suspension-worthy activity on the BYU side.

I think 4-8 is worst case. I can see losses to East Carolina, Cincinnati and Utah St as well.

we only go 4-8 if Taysom hill goes down for the season in game 1. My worst case scenario would be with a healthy Taysom Hill. I, Frankly, think he is going to play all season this year like he did in 13 and BYU is going to have a good season. The schedule is too hard to have a magical season but we will have a good season.

Personally I hate the suspensions.I was glad to see some fight in them.Do some service projects and move on.

Before the suspensions and the loss of Jamal, I was optimistically hoping for 10-2 with possible consideration for a NY6 bowl. Those changes plus questions at the OL, secondary, and RB make me believe we are headed for another 8-5 season, including our bowl game.

I really want better though...

I always believe in 12-0...until our first loss.

Honestly, I never can bring myself to believe we will lose a specific game. I watched Detmer against Miami as a young pre-teen. Hence, I always believe BYU can win any game they play, so I never predict a loss. What's the fun in that? Realistically, I am thinking a 9 or 10 win season, but I can't tell you which games we will lose because I believe we can win all of them.

So, I am 12-0 until the first loss. Then I will be 11-1. I know, I know. I think my optimism gets on my wife's nerves some times. :)

I think most of us go that way as well. I feel in my heart BYU can run the table. Using my 37 years of football knowledge that's a pretty tall task with that sept schedule. Let's hope my heart is right.

I think most of us feel this way that is part of why the first loss is usually the hardest for me to take. After that the hype dies down and we pretty much know where we will end up.

7-5

I read a preview predicting 6-6 today. I'm okay with losses to UCLA, ECU, Cincy, and Missouri, with a bowl win (9-5). I think ECU and Cincy could easily be wins, and Nebraska, Boise State, Michigan, and USU could easily be losses. My prediction is 7-5 regular season, so 9-4 after the bowl is what it would take for me to be satisfied. 10-3 would be amazing, probably a Top 25 season.

Be nice to see Michigan knock off the Utes. 1 I love the big ten and 2 I can't stand the Utes. Then to see BYU knock off Mich at home Perfect.

USA Today does a rerank based on how things are looking from practice. BYU is in at 38, but they rank opp. as follows:

Boise 5

UCLA 11

Nebraska 22

Missouri 23

Cincinnati 30

Utah St. 42

Michigan 64

East Carolina 66

Fresno 97

San Jose 101

Uconn 119

That could be 5 or 6 losses. The schedule looks tougher.
