It turns out these are photoshopped (some what obviously) Baylor alternate jerseys.

So, I decided to Google uniform, and this is what I get:

So, from this definition, a football uniform should be distinctive, unchanging clothing worn by a team that helps you identify them. Otherwise, you turn on the TV and you're like, "Well, the guys in cardinal and gold are clearly USC, but who are the guys in pink and grey? Oregon, you say? Okay, whatever." As long as there's only one school doing it, it's fine. Their uniform is non-uniformity. Fine. It's stupid, but fine. But 2 or more and we have descended into chaos.

From 1955-1960, BYU had a grey helmet. In 1962, it was white and blue. It was all blue in the 1964-65 seasons. We didn't add the Y until 1966 and it wasn't the stretch Y as we know it until 1978. It also looks like BYU was only royal blue from about 1969 to 1999.



That means the 15 season before and 16 season since BYU wasn't a royal blue school. That's more non-royal blue than royal blue time.



It's not the color that makes the BYU uniform. It's the stretch Y.

Oh, so they got the focus group participants to respond to these non-informs from the alumni classes of 1955-1960? That explains a whole lot. :-)

I counter by saying that the BYU football brand was established during the time that we had the stretch Y AND the royal blue, by virtue of the fact that we revolutionized the way offensive football is played, set a ton of records, won a ton of awards, and won a national championship. That's the only reason there is a brand.



Additionally, the stretch Y "as we know it" disappeared with the move to the bibs. It became a block Y in an ellipse, and only came back in '05. Royal blue predates the stretch Y as we know it, and both went out at the same time in '99. Historically, we've been royal blue about as much as we've used the current logo - maybe 1 year difference in favor of the logo, thanks to the '05 switch to the stretch Y and navy.



Finally, the fight song says "wear the white and blue" - not "wear the stretch Y and whatever other colors Nike picks for you." Since it's not specific as to the shade of blue, navy apparently is okay. ;) But it should be white and blue. Not white and white, or black, or freaking tan.

I've been singing "Wear the white and navy blue" for the last 10 years or so.
