Saturday Scrimmage

Who's attending the Saturday Scrimmage?



Anyone interested in lunch?

I vote we kick anyone out of the cool kids club if they choose option 2!

I would love to go, but Elk hunting takes precedence tomorrow.

I would likewise love to come, but I am about a thousand miles away...literally. On a positive note, it looks like I will get to be in Utah in October (my kids have fall break in Alabama and my wife's nephew will be giving his farewell talk), so we are going to try and catch the East Carolina game and go to one Conference session.

The Church didn't dump Boy Scouts in time, so I still have to take the Deacons out camping tonight.

I'll be there. I've gotta come down that way anyway to help my parents move furniture.

:lol: I'm pretty sure campouts will continue even without Boy Scouts. :D

I'm in Groveland, CA outside of Yosemite. Can't make it this year.

I moved to WA and while I am slightly closer it's still a 9 hour drive.

I am going and taking my son and should be able to make lunch as well.

I'll try to sit in Section C, somewhat high up for late comers, maybe 3/4 of the way up to the next concourse. I'll be the one wearing a BYU shirt. Lunch at JCW's after again?

Well, the stomach flu made its way around through all my kids and got to me, so I'll be sitting this one out.

Family plans changed and I probably won't make it.

Wish I could have made it. I've been working on my basement all weekend so far. Trying to get it finished by the end of the month.

Drive the boys to the camp-site, drop them off, and go get yourself a hotel. Spend the night eating pizza, watching Jimmy Kimmel re-runs, and have a nice shower in the morning. Oh, you gotta bring bags of fast food to your Scouts in the morning so they don't have to start a fire and cook. Be sure and give the boys your cell phone # so they can txt you if there are any problems. Enjoy.

I've been looking for some insights from the scrimmage. Here is one person's view:

Monkeycowboy thoughts on the scrimmage



Overall I tend to agree with Broncos analysis on cougar sports Saturday. He essentially suggested that the offense executed well to start and then the D adjusted and it got harder on the offense. There were more sacks just due to the fact they didn't want a defensive player to breathe on taysom.



Offense: the passing game looks much better under taysom. He isn't max hall but he is light years ahead of where he was 2 seasons ago. Combined with his ability to scramble (which he didn't do as much as they would have blown the play dead) he will if healthy keep us in any game.



Nick Kurtz looked great as did Colby Pearson. I don't think Devon Blackmon will be as featured as we all would have hoped but he will contribute more on O this season.



Algie was held out so the run game wasn't all that special. Hine did have some nice runs outside but was swallowed up for 2 to 3 yards on interior runs. The o line didn't open as many holes.



That being said the Oline did okay with pass protection. I'd say there was only 2-3 real sacks in the game.



Defense: I think the Dline showed some promise but Bronson, Harvey and butch are gonna be the real stars of the defense this season. Our safeties got beat a couple times but they also covered well a few times. Pikula made a few plays as well.



Special teams: Sampson looks improved. He was consistent and even nailed a 51 harder. Id say Johnny Linehan would be the starting punter. He rolled out to the right every time he punted most of his punts averaged 50 yards and looked shanky but they all stayed inbounds. His punts look hard to catch as they have some real wobble. I think byu recovers 2 or 3 of those punts when a returner will muff it this season.



Devon Blackmon is our punt returner but trey dye looks like a solid second option. Juergens got some reps but he fair caught most of them.



I'd say Tanner looks like a capable backup this year but taysom is obviously better. Id put koy at third string but he and Hoge aren't gonna beat tanner anytime soon.
