Jamal Williams withdraws from school, will redshirt 2015-16

Per 1280. Withdrawn for Personal Reasons. Will redshirt this year and return next year. That is huge. :angry:

This is huge, disappointing news for BYU.

The withdrawn from school is more concerning than the RS.



I don't think we'll see him in Provo again.

Wow! Hope all is well and that he can work out whatever needs to be worked out. Hope his family is okay.



Good thing we have lots of backs but I will miss watching Jamal burst through the seams.

Hans Olsen is saying that someone random blogger tweeted at him that Jamaal was going to be suspended for the 2015-16 season--then right afterwards this news breaks.



Sounds like he withdrew to avoid a suspension--honor code related maybe?

But this is no longer a position of strength.

As long as Taysom stays healthy, I have confidence in Hine and Brown to execute on the ground when needed. Love J-Will, but I think our other guys will step up.

I have to admit, I'm kind of okay with this. I feel like Algie Brown has more tools and runs harder than JW, with a slower burst.



I think the depth chart goes Brown, Hine, Carter at this point, and I'm really okay with that.

From past history. Who was the last non-LDS player who took a year away from BYU and came back to finish with the Cougars. Whether they left for personal reasons and of their own accord or were dismissed by the Honor Code Office, non-LDS players don't have a good track record of returning to BYU once they leave.

The withdrawal is scary. I don't know if I should hope for an honor code problem or a family tragedy. It doesn't necessarily even mean anything major happened. It could be as simple as needing to go home to get a job and help with some family bills. (ok it's probably more serious than that)



It stinks to lose him with a good receiving core and Sr. Taysom but he could help with the transition to Mangum. Had Harvey not been kicked out I imagine the transition of Hall to Heaps going very differently.



Effectively losing two running backs in one morning isn't a happy thing. :sick:

I would say that JSwag is the heart and soul of the offense. Big loss. Effects my outlook on the season. Puts in jeopardy the rushing record. Hope he comes back next year.

Judging by the sudden change in tenor in his mom's twitter account, I would guess something happened around July 28th that led to all this.

Obviously Tanner Mangum is Riley Nelson 2.0. He's clearly sabotaging Taysom's BYU playing days so that Jamaal Williams will be able to help him (Tanner) next year. You would have thought Bronco et al would have learned not to allow a backup QB divide the team and destroy the starter's chance at having a successful season.

I will miss Jamaal's running outside the tackles. I will also miss his style and heart. He's an all-around awesome guy. I hope to see him wreck the defenses of the 2016 schedule. Jamaal, come back in 2016 please!!

If anyone recalls during the player interviews at media day in June, Williams acknowledged that, given the damage to his knee, that he had considered redshirting this year. Perhaps his recovery wasn't as complete as desired and instead, he will focus on rehabilitation as well as tending to other family issues.



If he had stayed at BYU, there might have been pressure to return before fully healed. Jamaal has a very good relationship with Bronco, coaches and the team. I don't believe that all contact and communications will cease just because he has withdrawn from school. I tend to focus on the Brandon Davies example of how he will be treated. BD was loved and supported during his time of probation, and he returned. I trust the same approach will be used with Jamaal. His return will be with Squally Canada, and they will form a very formidable backfield.
