If only the sex with a hooker part is real, then I think Bronco would have already released him. For that matter all BYU students need an ecclesiastical endorsement. This all seems so strange.

This is one area where I have total confidence in Coach Mendenhall and he'll sift through this situation and if he doesn't feel like this is the right fix, he'll take care of it. I hope there can be something salvaged of this individual, but the media reports haven't cast a very favorable image on West being a good "fit" for the environment he'll find himself in at BYU.

Charles West, a running back from Coppell High School in Coppell, Texas, was arrested on Friday, two days after Signing Day, for an incident involving a knife that occurred on Jan. 28 in the garage of his family's residence in Coppell, according to court documents and Coppell police Sgt. Sammy Lujan.



According to a court affidavit filed for the arrest warrant, West, 18, is accused of sexually assaulting the complainant, a female, who had allegedly been summoned to the home by West through a website that solicits escort and other services, with the expectation that she would receive $160 for the call.



The police report and court documents allege that West brandished a large silver kitchen knife in the garage after the pair moved from a bedroom because a family member had returned home. Court documents state that West placed the knife against the complainant's neck and demanded sexual favors, which she eventually performed after an attempt to defend herself with a "small dagger" she pulled from her boot was unsuccessful.

I'm glad you are into giving people the benefit of the doubt though. I'll make sure to introduce this misunderstood young gentleman to your daughter when he gets to campus.

So a prostitute (with a history of holding her customers up with ransoms like this) claims he didn't pay. BTW you failed to note it was West who called the police when the prostitute and her pimp tried to shake him down for some money.



He said, she said. The prosecution should be ashamed for letting it go this far if this is all the "evidence" they have.

Don't forget that while she claimed she was raped, she refused to submit to an exam to gather evidence--so that would call into question the story since there isn't physical evidence to back up that claim.

That said, he certainly isn't fast tracking himself to Provo with all this stuff going on. From the video it looks like he and his friends rolled up to fight with the guys--one of whom had a gun. He appeared to be a passenger in a black SUV which races into the parking lot (tires squeeling) and he gets out and starts toward the group. He turned and ran behind the vehicle when he saw the guy come at him with the gun and 6 shots were fired. He's lucky this guy isn't a very good shot.

In OSHA vernacular, wouldn't this incident be considered a near miss. The shooter, who was recently apprehended, is certainly going to miss him when Mr. West goes west to Provo. 8)

Of course it isn't. But innocent until proven guilty--- this is the United States of America.

Maybe you should ask the Duke lacrosse team about the honesty of strippers and hookers.

If you read the report, which is really the prostitute's complaint rather than any investigation, West didn't hire her. He had no money to pay her. It's unclear who contacted whom. I mistrust the prostitute's entire story. If that is all the prosecution has, they should drop the case.



I don't hold a non-member to the same standard as a member of the church. So even if West had some marijuana in his house and it was his, I don't care. It would be no different than if he had some alcohol in his house.



Some religions don't have the same ideas we do regarding premarital sex. We can teach them a better way, to be sure, but if a recruit was doing something against the honor code prior to attending BYU I don't see any reason to condemn him. I'd add the caveat that if someone injures or threatens injury to another person they should not be going to BYU (they should be in prison).



If West is willing to come to BYU and live the honor code while enrolled, I would be happy to have him.

Sounds like this kid could really benefit from the BYU environment and experience. He obviously wants to be in different surroundings than he currently finds himself, after all, he did commit to come to BYU. You don't come to BYU if you want to keep on a party lifestyle, there are too many other schools available for that. Hopefully he hasn't burned his bridge to BYU and gets the experience he wants/needs. Last trouble recruit to succeed at BYU... Kyle Van Noy

The argument was about money. And the shooter (18 years old) is under arrest charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (2nd degree felony).
