Toledo?

Oh come on, Toledo (I lived for a year about 20 miles from there)? Not totally dissing the Rocket's program because they have been a power in the MAC, but a straight up one-for-one?

I say BYU doesn't accept away games where the school's facility is not bigger than 40K unless there is a 2fer deal.



One blaring question is how Toledo got 36,852 fans in a stadium designed for a paltry 26,248 vs. Navy in 2001?



I don't have any problem playing Toledo, but they are a team that can beat good teams, but beating them gains very little. I'll play a Toledo every week at home, but on the road to me is foolish in a straight up one-for-one.

I don't have a problem with it. BYU did the same with another better than average MAC team in Northern Illinois. They are better than a UNLV series or something like that. They are a should win game against a respectable team on a tough schedule. And it sounds like there might have been some help to work it out from Tulsa so perhaps a Tulsa series is coming up in the future too.

FWIW I like this game. I bet that we have a large fan presence in thier stadium for that game

I'm down for a Cedar Point/BYU game road-trip combo. Leave the kids under 48" home for this one.

One of my greatest dislike of older age (I'm in my 50's) is that I cannot handle, without motion sickness, amusement parks. For those that don't know anything about Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio, it has consistently been THE roller coast park in the world. I grew up going annually, but in the early 80's they took off trying to always have top 10 amusement rides. The park is 66 miles from Toledo, but it's worth an extra day if you love the most awesome coaster rides out there.

What, playing at BYU south is not a home game?

My point is that Toledo can be dangerous without much reward. In the last 5 years they have beaten Purdue and Cincinnati and lost in OT to Ohio State and Syracuse. They also lost very close game to Arizona. Just one of those teams that has more potential to hurt you than help you. Yes, they are in the same conference as NIU, but NIU has at least been to a major bowl game in the recent past--something BYU hasn't even done.



I did note that both Missouri and Arizona gave them home and away games in the last 5 years, but 20K stadiums don't demand a lot of respect.

But if they beat other good teams in a year that we play them, then that victory helps us - right?

I have no problem with a home and with Toledo, the stadium size is around the same size as Utah St, Colorado St, and Wyoming. The game will give BYU a game in Ohio, when is the last time BYU played in Ohio? And it's not like Toledo is a cellar dweller in the MAC, they were a 9 win team, that was ranked last year.

This game is much like Middle Tennessee, that gives BYU a chance to play a game in Tennessee. They help BYU connect with members across the country, youth activities and ect...

OK, I got your point on 2 stadiums:

USU Romney Stadium 25,513 (honestly it didn't seem that small to me because their fans are so vocal and animated)

Wyoming's Memorial Stadium 29,181



CSU's Hughes Stadium is more reasonable with 34,400. I can handle that more as a descent size.



Hey, I'm all for a game in Ohio. So don't get me wrong. I'm not totally disappointed in this match. It was TH who originally put USU in the category of a 2fer. I can see plainly where they felt dissed. Is it that TH now feels that generally speaking 2fers are not good for football, but exist and we'll do them because we don't have much choice as an indy team? It's questions like that which make me unsettled, but as I noted subsequent to my initial post, seeing that both Arizona and Missouri have gone to the Glass Bowl in the last five years, it doesn't seem so egregious for a home and away.
