The article suggested Army--but they already have 12 scheduled opponents so scratch them too.
Others that I think are possible but a long shot:
- UAB (Conference USA) - Recent tweets have hinted it would be more feasible to bring back their program in 2017 since the players and coaches have mostly transferred and scheduling a full OOC within a year would be tough. I'm assuming they will not be available for 2016.
- Florida International (Conference USA) - They have an opening for a road game but there were rumors about Miami (FL) renewing their series. As luck would have it, Miami also has an opening for a game with 6 home and 5 road games scheduled.
These appear to be the most likely unless schedule changes are announced:
- UCF (AAC) - They currently have 6 home games and 5 road games announced. BYU won 24-17 at home in 2011 and lost 24-31 OT on the road in 2014. A new series would be exciting.
- Kansas State (Big 12) - The only P5 candidate in the list, they have 6 home games (including FCS Missouri State and Florida Atlantic) and 5 road games announced. I'm not sure how likely it is but this one but would be the best available team.
- Marshall (Conference USA) - They currently have 6 home games and 5 road games announced. In their only previous meeting, Marshall topped BYU 21-3 in the 1999 Motor City bowl.
- Buffalo (Mid-American) - Buffalo has only announced 5 home and 5 road games. The teams have never met either, but who knows.
