UPDATE-- March 30 -- CBSSports is reporting Pope has taken the job.

Wow. Not entirely surprised. Probably thought with Rose's health issues the coaching position at the Y would open sooner.



He has legitimate NBA experience, which would certainly be missed, but you don't hear about Pope's influence on the team like you did about Rice so I am not sure how big of a loss it would be.

Good chance for him to get some HC experience before applying for a BYU job should Rose not be around forever with health issues.

I like the idea of coaches moving on and getting xp else where. I think it makes him a better coach if he ever comes back to the Y.

I like it because when Rose does decide to retire, then Pope will have had HC experience and we'll be able to see how he runs a program. It's a sign that a program is running well when your staff gets looked at for open spots out there.

I suppose one could call HC experience at UVU actual HC experience. I think this is a total waste of time if he wants to come back to BYU. Just stay as an asst and invest in the program. And if pope is BYUs next guy, they need to give him raise and tell him to knock this crap off. If Popeis flushing this last scenario out, then good on him. Otherwise,this is a dead end move for Pope.
