Wasn't everyone in the 80's? Pads back then were like wearing a Yugo on your shoulders.

Unless this is the first play of the game, I'm surprised his uni isn't all grass-stained or dirty--I'd imagine he was a real get-after-it player.

From other pictures I had seen it looked like he wore those pads on his forearms that were almost like shin guards. These pictures just show him wearing tape.

I think they are playing on artificial turf... look at the shoes: classic "all-turfs"

The elbow pads too. I played on the turf at Boise State (pre-smurfturf), and it sucked! Elbow pads helped a lot!
