Marriott Center Announcements

1) Dropping 1,900 seats from the lower bowl. All lower bowl seats will be blue, padded chairs, with added leg room.



2) Adding new LED replay screens.



3) Addition of Annex, approx. 38,000 sq ft. 2.5 bball courts/practice facility/strength and conditioning.

True, they are definitely trending that way, from going to WCC to poor season performances.

BYU has announced plans to renovate the remaining lower bowl of the Marriott Center & install the same prime chair seats currently found on the north side of the arena.



In addition the Marriott Center scoreboard and video walls will be replaced w/ state-of-the-art LED video boards that will enhance the many events held each year in the Marriott Center.



Construction on both projects is anticipated to begin around May 1, with completion projected by late summer.



BYU has announced plans to construct a new Marriott Center Annex which will include a state-of-the-art basketball practice facility. Construction on the new facility is anticipated to begin in summer 2015 w/ completion projected by fall 2016.



The annex will connect to the east end of the MC replacing the road that currently runs between the arena and the BYU Broadcasting Building.



The Marriott Center Annex is being funded through generous private donations and includes funding for future maintenance of the facility.



Marriott Center Annex Features include:

- Square footage approximately 38,000

- Replica of the Marriott Center floor

- Added shooting areas on both ends of the court

- Strength and conditioning center

- Training room with hydrotherapy

- Office suites for the men’s and women’s basketball staff

- Meeting rooms

- Team lounge and study areas

- Basketball hall of honor showcasing the history and tradition of BYU basketball

Good thing those indamnable donors agree with you! I'm sure they appreciate your paltry perspective. Maybe they would be happy with just a thank you.

I can't help but think that these upgrades and dedicated practice facility will really help with recruiting. You need every advantage you can get and this puts BYU right there facility-wise.

Tribune says they will flip the team benches/officials tables back to the other side. Any reason for that you can think?

That doesn’t make any sense to me, unless the really aren't flipping the stuff, but moving it over. The reason being that I read that the Student section will remain in the west baseline, which is where the opposing team faces in the second half. I cannot imagine that being given up, so the opposing team will still have their bench on the west side of the scorer's table I imagine.



That said, I would like to see the student section moved to the East side, and have the opposing bench moved there as well because the opening to the arena looks smaller, and there appear to m to be more seats directly behind that basket. Thus the students could better disrupt the opposing team (especially at the free throw line
