PROVO, Utah — Brigham Young University and the University of Arizona today announced the addition of a two-game football series scheduled for 2026 and 2027. The Wildcats will travel to Provo for a game at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Sept. 12, 2026. Arizona will then host the Cougars on Sept. 11 2027, at Arizona Stadium in Tucson.

In April 2013, BYU and Arizona announced a three-game series for 2016, 2018 and 2020. The first two games of that series remain as scheduled, while the third game has changed.

The 2016 contest will be played on Sept. 3 in Glendale, Ariz., at University of Phoenix Stadium, home of the NFL's Arizona Cardinals and the 2015 Super Bowl. The second game is scheduled for Sept. 1, 2018, in Tucson. Game three will move from Sept. 12, 2020, in Provo to Sept. 4, 2021, in Las Vegas. Game times and broadcast information will be announced at a later date.

BYU and Arizona have met 22 times previously with the Wildcats leading the series 12-9-1. The first game between the two teams came in 1936 and the most recent meeting was in the 2008 in the Las Vegas Bowl, where Arizona defeated BYU 31-21. From 1962 to 1977 the two programs were members of the Western Athletic Conference. During that 16-year stretch, the Cougars captured WAC football titles in 1965, 1974, 1976 and 1977, while the Wildcats won conference titles in 1964 and 1973.



2 interesting notes: Arizona coming to BYU first, and this game is scheduled after the grant of rights for many of the P5 conferences expires.

Interesting....so the 3rd game is changing from a BYU home game in 2020 to a neutral site game in 2021. So that makes the series N (Univ. of Phoenix Stad 2016), A (at Arizona 2018), N (in Las Vegas 2021), H (at Provo 2026), A (at Arizona 2027)

I would hardly say they are coming to BYU first, after two trips to Arizona first, one an alleged "neutral site", then robbed to Vegas, then home?? Um, that blows. But ya, I guess BYU will take it. That's a hose job, TH flinched over the P5 crap, AZ cinched, and BYU I gets one of four in Provo?

Posted that before realizing the series had changed on game 3. N-A-N-H-A So it becomes a 2 for 1 if you want to look at it that way with 2 neutral games in there.

So my big remaining question is would the 2021 game be in a new arena that is being built in Las Vegas? There have been rumors of new buildings being built for football, basketball, and soccer (to lure MLS) but haven't seen any solid announcements that they were definitely going in. They would have 6 years to get it built if this game was hosting it.

Terrible job by Holmoe. Extremely unimpressed with this turn of events.

The LV city council approved of funding for the new MLS stadium.

If you take a step back, it's actually not bad at all.

Home: UCLA, UMass, Southern Miss, Utah St.

Neutral: Arizona, West Virginia

Road: Utah, Michigan St., Boise St., Cincinnati



Five P5, w/ Utah, Utah St., and Boise



2020 schedule-

Home: Michigan St., Missouri (in November)

Road: at ASU, at Boise St., at N. Illions, at Stanford



Four P5, w/ Boise (and likely Utah St. and/or Utah)



2021 schedule-

Home: ASU, Boise St.

Neutral - Arizona (in Vegas, new stadium?!)

Road: USF, USC

Ah--it was pointed out to me that the reason for moving the Arizona game to Las Vegas may have been to accommodate the addition of the Michigan State series (both the 3rd Arizona game date @ Provo and the the 2nd game of the Michigan State series @ Provo both fell on Sep 12, 2020. Odd to offer no explanation at all though.

Don't hate it if we get 6 true home games in 2021 plus this little trip to Vegas.

I'd watch for one of our home ND games in 2021 and the next one in 2024.

Agreed. I'd rather do a 2 for 1 and be done. 1 home game for 3 away, bites.
