Great news! Obviously expected but always good to have paper in hand.

Now that he has signed does that mean that he can no longer recruit for us?

I believe that's true... at least for anyone he didn't have contact with prior to the signing of his LOI. So he should still be able to talk to guys like Q but not anyone new.

SIGNING DAY: Today marks the beginning signing period for mid-year transfers. Coach Bronco Mendenhall said the program will sign a number of players, though he wouldn't say how many. "We'll make an announcement (Thursday)," Mendenhall said. Briefly- Junior college players and those high school players who will graduate in December could begin signing with Division I programs on Wednesday. Mendenhall said the Cougars expect to sign some players in that category, and could announce those signings as soon as today. I'm pretty sure by now that all of them are home of their missions. Do the ones who were enrolled prior to their missions not have to worry about "resigning"? If so, that doesn't explain Leung-Wai's status. If the list provided by BYU was only one of "newcomers" that's fine, but I'd also love to hear how some of these other guys are doing and what their plans are and what preparations they've started taking to get back into shape.

JAKE HEAPS

Ranked the No. 1 quarterback in the nation by Scout.com, Heaps led Skyline High School to three state championships while posting a 40-2 record as a three-year starter. With excellent arm strength and accuracy, Heaps amassing 9,994 yards passing and completed 63 percent of his passes while connecting on 114 touchdowns with only 18 interceptions. Including 30 rushing touchdowns, he totaled 144 scores overall during his three-year career.





So who dropped the 6 yard pass that would have put Heaps at 10,000 yards for his high school career?

I still remember Lavell Edwards about the signing of Ty Detmer, "I don't know if he'll ever play for us or not, but we're glad to him signed." Edwards was always the master of understatement, but his experience probably told him you just never know if I player is going to work out or not. We should all temper our expectations about Heaps; hopefully he's the real deal, but you never know. First, he has to displace Riley Nelson, who probably has the inside track for starting the first game next fall. But if Heaps can come to spring ball and impress the coaches, make a statement, and show he can play at this level, right out of high school, the coaches just might go with him.



I'm not sure what his mission plans are (I am guessing, for some reason, he's going to play football and not serve a mission), but if he is planning on a mission, the coaches are probably going to give the nod to Nelson. But it would be exciting to see a freshman come in, start, and set the world on fire.
