Kozlowski's and Kuresa's interviews today also contradicted Buck's whine fest yesterday.

McMurphy's ESPN article also lists the BYU-Virginia series as 2019-2023 not 2019-2020 as previously listed.

BYU currently has only one ACC team on its future schedule: Virginia. The Cougars and Cavs, who played in 2013 and 2014, complete their four-game series in 2019 at Virginia and 2023 at BYU.

Nice to see they finally listened to me. Now, onto the SEC.

I imagine that the ACC faced similar issues as Pac12 with ND scheduling so that one team was looking for an opponent during that timeframe. I look forward to see what tram(s) they will pickup: Miami, FSU, Clemson, Wake Forest, NC all are high scoring fun teams to watch. The timing of this announcement is also validation of BYU belonging in same breath as P5 schools and should be used to help alleviate any concerns of recruits who had a P5 status issue.

As others have said, I see this as an announcement that come right before MORE scheduling news. The timing of this is very good!

Maybe the ESPN got involved to get them to change their position. Hope we get some games from this.

Most of the Notre Dame v. ACC games are in October and November. You have to think that it will eventually create some scheduling holes for an ACC team or two each season - and a great opportunity for BYU.



I'm thinking that both ESPN and Notre Dame had a lot to do with this development.



Believe it or not, this could open the door to not only making independence worthwhile, but making it the better option for BYU.

IMO the games going forward from 2015 on are going to be a lot more laden with top tier teams based upon the ACC recognition of BYU as P5 team. Note that P12 already has 21 games scheduled with BYU and with recent tie-ins with SEC and BG10 teams, already recognition is taking place. Future opponents should be very challenging but will present the opportunity for BYU to demonstrate it can consistently compete with the big boys.

Also pretty good timing with this announcement with signing day next week! Especially since it didn't originate from BYU, but came from the ACC and ESPN.

First, I remember when BYU announced they were going independent many cougar fans were excited with it while a very vocal minority of cougar fans were saying this would be the end of BYU football. They felt they were right when the schedule came out in the first couple of years BYU was playing pretty much a 1-AA schedule. They said BYU would never be able to schedule any of the "Big Boys" of football. Anybody with a working brain would have known that trying to create a 12 game schedule in 1 1/2 years wouldn't be an easy thing to do and Tom Holmoe did the only thing he could do, which is fill up the first couple of years of the schedule with teams that actually had openings. Now we can see the schedule is filling out with the "Big Boys" and some of them actually paying BYU a lot of money to play at their place because right now they don't want to come play in Provo. This will change more and more as the schedules continue. I can't wait until we get the return games from the Power 5 schools into LES, it will be a rocking place to be!



Second reason this is huge news for BYU is they can go out recruiting and tell the players that BYU isn't in a P 5 conference but the P 5 conferences think BYU is an equal to them. But they still have the ability to play anywhere in the country and be on ESPN and National TV almost every week. Pretty good pitch right there. Now if we can only get the SEC to say BYU is a P 5 team, that would seal the deal. I don't know if this will ever happen because the SEC has such an ego problem. They think everyone else is below them. They remind me of a Tesla or any other electric car, they look great, are powerful, and fast but can't go more than 70 miles from home. Hopefully the LSU game will help knock down that wall with the SEC.



Third, what this does is set up BYU for their next ESPN contract. This whole independence venture would not have worked without ESPN behind them. I think ESPN has had a ton of influence in getting the P 5 teams to start scheduling BYU, but these schedules will now make BYU a lot more appealing to ESPN which will result in a better contract after this one is up. That alone will help BYU stay relevant and profitable without P 5 money coming in. I would think BYU vs PAC 12, Big 12, ACC, Big 10, and Boise St every year could at least double the amount of the new TV contract.

Agreed. Over time, this could increase the chance that Big12 picks us up. Might be a small chance but it helps show we can deliver value to the conference.



It also helps to negate the Pac12 advantage of the team up north. Our schedules are getting better and more competitive.

BSU's take on the announcement. "Does this mean that we have three P-5 teams on our schedule next season with WA, VA, and BYU? Awesome!!!"

IMO, BYU must absolutely back this up against the G5 on the schedule in 2015. The entire G5 community will pounce on any opportunity to mock BYU and criticize the ACC's announcement.



And, that won't be easy - Boise St., ECU, Cincinnati, and Utah St. are probably four of the top 6 or 7 G5 programs right now.



Not to mention, the P5 part of the schedule is pretty daunting with 4 road games against teams that could each easily have top-25 teams in 2015.
