Non-Mormon football player/coaches associated with the Y

I know Sarkisian is Catholic, as are the Miracle Bowl heros with a great Hail Mary pass, Clay Brown and Jim McMahon. Two Catholics save the Mormons' butts from the Methodists. My testimony was badly shaken that day, but the Hail Mary saved it. :blush:



Mike Holmgren is a non-LDS Christian and is very strong in his faith. I don't know specifically what church, but I really don't care. I've always respected Holmgren.



Who else fall into this category and do they still like BYU?



Who also went to the Y as a non-member and later became was converted?

Ty Detmer and Curtis Brown weren't members, but are now.



I don't believe the Bellini brothers were members nor converted.



Kresimir Cosic on the bball team wasn't a member but became one and spurned the NBA to bring the Church to his home country.

Off the top of my head: Andy Reid, Curtis Brown, Ty Detmer.

James Dye didn't come as a member, not sure if he converted though. I know he's done some radio stuff recently.

Brian Billick is a non-member, but he did Lighting the Y donation videos a while back. There are tons of others, but Billick is the most prominent of the ones not already listed. Doug Scovil and Ted Tollner weren't members. I don't think Roger French was either.



The list is really long... Walsh, Feterik, the Mitchell brothers, Derwin Gray, Ronnie Jenkins, Watkins are a few more.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Andy Reid is LDS. Curtis Brown and Detmer joined the church while at BYU.

He was listing members that are now members.

All I know is that once they wore the blue and represented the Y, I did not care either way, so long as they won on the field and acted well off of it.

Holmgren's nephew (Elder Holmgren) served in my mission. I don't know about Coach Holmgren, but one of his brothers is a member.

I agree with you. I don't worry about a person's beliefs, rather it's about their actions.

Jeff Campbell (hoops) falls into the category of came Gentile, left Mormon.



One of the Tuipulotus (Peter IIRC) was baptized at the same ceremony as Detmer.

Jim McMahon used to feed the missionaries while in Philly (and that's about as close as he ever got!)



Tim Nowatzke converted when he came to BYU (after Notre Dame told him he was too small to play D1 ball). He spent a summer or 2 as an EFY Counselor.



Jason Chaffetz came as a non member and a Democrat and is now neither.
