Memphis vs Opponent Averages

I ran some numbers for Memphis to see what kind of team we're going up against in a few weeks.



Here's what I found. As always, this is how Memphis did against opponent averages with the Memphis game taken out of the calculation.



- Only two teams (UCLA and South Florida) scored more points on Memphis than their scoring offense averages.



- Only two teams (Ole Miss and Temple) held Memphis below their scoring defense averages.



- Only two teams (Ole Miss and Houston) ran for more yards on Memphis than their rushing offense averages.



- Four teams (UCLA, Ole Miss, Houston, Temple) held Memphis below their rushing defense averages.



- Three teams (UCLA, Ole Miss, South Florida) gained more total yards on Memphis than their total offense averages.



- Four teams (Middle Tenn, Ole Miss, Houston, Tulane) held Memphis below their total defense averages.



- Three teams (UCLA, Houston, South Florida) had higher Offensive PERs against Memphis than their PER averages.



- Five teams (Austin Peay, Middle Tenn, Ole Miss, Tulsa, UConn) held Memphis below their Defensive PER average.



- On average, Memphis scored 14.8 points more than opponent scoring defense averages.



- On average, Memphis held teams 19.8 points below their scoring offense averages.



- On average, Memphis gained 3.2 fewer yards than opponent rushing defense averages.



- On average, Memphis held teams to 34.1 fewer yards than opponent rushing offense averages.



- On average, Memphis gained 17.3 fewer yards than opponent total defense averages.



- On average, Memphis held teams to 53.4 fewer yards than opponent total offense averages.



- On average, Memphis was 4.5 PER points above opponent PER defensive averages.



- On average, Memphis held teams 35.7 PER points below opponent PER offensive averages.

What does it mean? It's finals week for me. A little brain dead.

I think it means Memphis is apretty good team.

Memphis appears to be a better defensive team than offensive team. This game will definitely challenge both sides of the ball.



Only four teams met the PER standard vs Memphis (UCLA, Middle Tenn, Ole Miss and Cincinnati).



And the Memphis defense met the Defensive PER standard (119) vs the other eight teams.
