What is the Future for BYU if there is never a P5 Invite?

In reading through all of the way early speculation on the B12 and BYU's future, I find a lot of pessimism on BYU ever being included in a P5 conference such as the Big12. So if that is the case 2-5 years down the road, what route would you prefer for BYU football to take?

Ditto. I have actually enjoyed the schedules we have had. I look forward to more good schedules in the future, especially since P5 conferences now have to boost their strength of schedule. BYU is a good program that looks good on the resume, if you can beat us.

Drop to FCS status?

BYU will not give up the money they are getting being an independent.



In the first 3 games of independence BYU earned more TV money than it had for the entire year before from the MWC for all sports combined.

I don't see any of the other options as being better for BYU that being indy, so we stay indy until something better comes along.

I really have a difficult time seeing long term viability if they never get in. The P5's will continue to push to lock out the non P5's with rules and policy while the money they make will continue to separate them. A lot of those schools are making $25mm now and the contracts push much much higher than that by the end. It will be way to hard to keep up. The P5 will eventually be paying much more than a $2,500 stipend and offering much better benefits.

Agreed.At some point the MW and other non power 5 will become obsolete, they won't be able to compete with the benefits the power 5 is giving. Face the facts the ncaa does not wont those school in the playoffs. BYU still has hope based on the power 5 teams they keep scheduling. I would feel a lot better if we got into the big 12 conf.

At some point though there is a bubble that will burst. Nothing goes up in value perpetually.

Home values! Just keep pumping money into bad mortgages, and if that fails, we could always go with dot.com startups.

And then move into gold.

Here's the thing, the radio hacks keep saying that if BYU wants "access" they should go back to the MWC. Sure, access to an NY6 bowl is easier there. But unless BYU were to be the NY6 team every year, they actually lose money by being in a conference. Why go from roughly 12 million a year to 6?
