If they want a CCG next year they could get BYU and Navy.

How could BYU clear their schedule to make such a move possible next year? It would be very expensive and could make our schedule even tougher.

The contracts have an out if we join a conference. I think Navy is slated to join the AAC next year. They have not joined yet so they can pull out for another conference. The Big12 is mad and could consider getting a CCG ASAP.

The way things played out could not have been better.

I want BYU in the big12 so bad but I'm scared to death BYU will blow it over stupid tv rights

Their commissioner is taking a beating.

I like it. Things are moving in the right direction.



Nothing will happen this year though. Big12* will file some petitions, try to get some waivers and put a band-aid on the problem. Will take at least another season or two of the Big12* getting hosed.



*There is nothing "12" about the Big12.

Big XII already has an amendment proposal filed with the NCAA to allow them to play a championship game with only 10 teams. I believe the ACC joined with them. They won't push for any change until that's refused, which won't happen until late Spring, at the earliest. If it's passed/accepted, then BYU is dead in the waters of independence until TV contracts start getting renewed in 2020 or so.

How we would rank within the BIG12.

I, for one, would like to see BYU in the Big 12. But I think we need to be realistic about our expectations as to how they'd fare in a power conference. Do they belong? Yes, I think they do, but they'd consistently be a middle of the pack team with a few good years thrown in there. No way they'd average 9 or 10 wins a season, but I do think they'd be bowl eligible most years. I'd expect growing pains like Utah has experienced, but I do think they belong.

I'd be pretty surprised if we weren't able to get to 6 wins fairly consistently in the Big12.

I think we'd still get 8 wins a seasons.



Players and coaches would rise to the occasion. As coaches say, "every opponent is the same," it isn't true and the pressure to compete against tougher opponents would have our guys motivated.

It would be interesting to see what a B12 schedule would look like. Probably 9 conference games and 3 OOC games? So every other year would look like 5/4 conference home games and 1/2 OOC home games? The committee has made it clear that OOC schedule better not be weak (see Baylor). Figuring Utah as 1 OOC every year, a MWC (Boise St./Utah St.) and one more P5? Would definitely be a grind. 7-8 wins a year would be very good IMO.

Man, TCU's sure having some growing pains after having moved to that bigger pond...oh wait. The Big XII would, in my mind, be the best spot for BYU to land and you never know how the change will affect players, coaches, recruiting, money, etc. until you've made the move. If I'm being honest, and it pains me to say it, I thought :utard: would have fared a little better by now in the Pac and I thought TCU would've fared a little worse. Might we be middling if we moved to the Big XII? Sure, but we also might excel as we've done in every conference we've been in for the past half century or so (not that those necessarily compare to the Big XII).

Big 12 officials recently met with administrators from the University of Cincinnati, a source close to the university told Sporting News. That is not an indication membership will be offered to the Bearcats in the immediate future — only that they would be a candidate were such an expansion to be undertaken.

They are studying options. Let's hope BYU is also being met with and talking even though they don't leak it out in the press. :whistle:



It also mentions that by being at 10 the conference is also vulnerable to other conferences snatching its members away (most notably Texas) in spite of the grant of rights--because of the precedence of teams being able to negotiate the GofR way down.



And that holding a conference championship with 10 teams is a bit awkward and they might not do it even if they were allowed.

DeLoss Dodds (former Texas AD) was also quoted today as saying that he didn't know of a single AD in the Big XII who was pushing for expansion yet. Sounds like the Big XII brass was just doing some due diligence so they could present some hard(er), fast(er) numbers on the cost of expansion versus the benefit.



At the end of the day, the ADs realize that at least one P5 conference was going to sit out this year. Both Baylor and TCU would have beaten out a one-loss ACC team.
