Another big opening. And they extended his contract this year. What were they thinking?

What were they thinking hiring him in the first place? BTW, Rich Rod was just named PAC coach of the year.

Another school who thought they were bigger than they were. Lloyd Carr was a good coach who won a lot of games every year and had a habit of beating Ohio State every year but 8 wins wasn't good enough for Michigan so they fired him. How has that worked out for them? I guess we will see who the next victim will be that gets hired there.

Hopefully it will be Jim Harbaugh just for the "train wreck TV" factor.

That sounds like Nebraska... but not as bad.

2 schools who think their appeal for coaches are higher then they really are.

Cold weather schools are no longer power. Nebraska. Michigan. Penn State. Notre Dame. BYU. Kids want to play in California/Texas/Florida.

In general agree with Mars, but not all stats back that up. Look at the latest recruiting rankings and current CFP top 10.

2013 Rivals Rankings: 3 California or Texas, 3 cold weather, 4 other.....I would say kids want to play in the SEC or state of Florida (that makes up 6 teams)

1. Alabama

2. Ohio State

3. Notre Dame

4. Florida

5. Michigan

6. LSU

7. Ole Miss

8. UCLA

8. Auburn

10. Florida State

CFP: 3 teams from Florida or Texas, 3 colder weather, 4 other

1. Alabama

2. Oregon

3. TCU

4. Florida State

5. Ohio State

6. Baylor

7. Arizona

8. Michigan State

9. Kansas State

10. Mississippi State

Michigan is actually a good spot now. They have been through two bad experiences, so you don't have the pressure of immediately showing improvement over Llyod Carr--you just have to be better than Hoke next year.

Their facilities are now all upgraded, and the B1G isn't exactly murderer's row anymore--the East division is OSU, MSU, Maryland, Rutgers, Michigan, Penn St, and Indiana, so a coach with half a pulse who can recruit could have the team competing for the East slot in the B1G Championship game in the first year or two.

Add to that the fact that the AD finally has seen the light and eliminated the stoopid "Michigan Man" requirement for the job, and this actually could be a really REALLY good gig for a really good coach.

And replaced him with Harbaugh.

This is easily the best coaching change of the season.
